Pretty much as he says. We will lock threads if the level or quality of posts look as if they will breach the HEXUS rules, particularly personal insults or language, or if a thread is deliberately 'trashed'.
We regard all users as moderators in that everyone has the ability to report a post that they consider breaches the fairly relaxed rules in place. Users do have a say, but obviously not a final say as that would lead to anarchy and reduce the value of the forums to all users.
There was a a sub forum at one time that was more relaxed than GD, I can't even remember what it was called now.
But it was closed because it got out of hand, took too much time for the mods to look after.
I thought it was a shame at the time, but these days it's the right thing. I think moderation levels are just right on here.
there is a thread, a certain very long thread, which doesnt make much sense, which people could post any sort of random drivel in it, where someone could be as feisty ;) as they liked.
do you think its time for a comeback?
could apply a 'posts in this thread dont count' type thing on it to stop people spamming for benefits. but everyone would lose a few hundred posts off their post count :p
I think we have enough of those at it is! :)
I think there was a banter sub-forum at one time - also closed because it got out of hand.
These things have been tried before, but experience shows that without some form of moderation, the forums can become pretty unpleasant places to be. There are many other forums (and usenet sites) where there is no moderation. If that floats your boat, feel free. U-tube (for example) is also very lightly moderated and there are comments there that I wouldn't wish to see on HEXUS.
I for one would welcome such a forum or thread...as I have a lot of pent-up, misdirected anger and rage I need to take out on you guys.
Thanks for understanding.
