V. poor facebook warning

Dear web team,
At the top of http://hexus.net/ there is a banner, which as at today reads "Win one of ten be quiet! goodies", and when i mouse over i can see a link to hexus.net/fbcqb
This gives the impression of it being a competition. However on clicking, it takes me through to facebook.

To me this seems to be manipulation on your part, deceiving us readers, to go to your facebook site.

I would like to request that you make it clearer prior to clicking that this is a facebook link.
I appreciate that for our part its only a few clicks, and there is always the back arrow in the browser, but there is a principle here - if i feel that Hexus is trying to manipulate me in the 'liking' it on facebook or something then it leaves a very sour taste. If you have some other reason for this, then make it clear please.

Dear Misc - I am so sorry you feel this way.

We don't force you to do anything, it's your choice.

As a site we invest heavily in a ton of areas - content, testing, development, hosting in order to bring you this site. It's funded by working with partners. One of the things which we work on with companies is Competitions. Without doubt (and I hope someone can confirm me either way) we have the best competitions out of any tech publication.

Ironically that link was to a competition that you could enter via Facebook - the reality is the competition is closed. We didn't update the link quick enough but the application goes through to our FB page if the competition has expired. The link has been updated to another contest now.

Thanks for the lack of the benefit of the doubt - because as a regular round here I am surprised you are so cynical and decided to post like you did but heck that's cool.

It links through to a HEXUS Facebook Competition Application but the competition has finished so it doesn't load a dead page it loads FB.

Aye, think of us poor people that use your site from work, where attempting to get on social media lends us in hot water (even if browsing your page during a designated break). Some form of warning that a link goes to any social media page would be useful.
