What be those then? That when words in threads turn into links?
If so I guess its forum based and I also guess that ADblock in Chrome seem to be turning them off for me.
Ah, OK, thanks, I'll have a look at that.
double post
adblock in chrome will turn them off, but I'd suggest doing something more discrimantory. I have it set up to block adwords type stuff but not banner ads.
Hexus needs advertising revenue to survive (presumably) and although my pageviews might not bankrupt them, if everyone has adblock its not great.
Oddly enough I haven't seen them on here other than obvious stuff like ebay item numbers etc so it might be your browser.
Yes, HEXUS relies on advertising to keep the forums (and other parts of the site) running. The alternative would be a subscription type of model, and to be fair, most of the banner ads are for products likely to be of interest to the HEXUS reader profile anyway.
Speaking personally I find skim links irritating, particularly when referring to a generic product and that gets skim linked to a particular supplier - I assume that is the relationship skim links has with the advertiser, not HEXUS, but that is not something I either know or need to know. On the rare occasions when it does detract from a post skim links is quite easy to fool e.g. Smartphone or smart_phone. But for the most part, I find them easy to ignore. And I specifically exclude HEXUS from adblock so that it does get any revenue I might generate by letting the ads through. After all, I use the site quite extensively.
Yeah, I'm not bothered by the banners etc, just the skimlinks. I'll have a look at adblock and see if I can adjust it.
