I like HEXUS GPU review but...
Hi just wanted to say I appreciate HEXUS reviews (mostly readingt about GPU in my case), I also like TechpowerUp but hates Guru3D (not professional enough and ugly web design from my point of view), however, I was just wondering why there are no review of AMD last custom GPU on BF4 ? Like the TriX 290 no BF4...?? (I am GTX 780 owner and I wanted to have Hexus comparison of that 290 triX and my 780 but no review on that game... which is now a MUST HAVE game...)
Also I hope you will make reviews on Mantle's performance under BF4... comparing before and after, AMD's GPUs vs Nvidia's on different CPU of course (as Mantle seems to help more the CPU limited case than GPUs...)
Re: I like HEXUS GPU review but...
Ew BF4 is certainly not a MUST HAVE game! It's not to my liking at all :p
Hexus seem to try to keep a fairly stable benchmark suite - this helps comparisons between cards and generations stay more relevant, while still providing enough genre spread to indicate likely graphics card performance.
Re: I like HEXUS GPU review but...
Hi 3DPowa,
I've moved your post to our suggestions forum, where it's more likely that Hexus staff will read it (the forums are adminstered and moderated largely by volunteers, and we don't have anything to do with the running of the reviews or other articles!). I suspect the main reason, though, is time. AFAIK the comparison results in each review are taken from previous reviews (i.e. they don't rebenchmark every card for every review), which means that if you change a test you have to re-run all the previous cards through that test to get a comparison (that's why they also use a standard testing system that doesn't change very often - they only switched to Haswell in October, more than 4 months after release)
BF4 is a relatively new release and Hexus haven't used it in their benchmarks yet, so to get meaningful results they'd have to run the benchmark on a number of different cards, and that take a long time. The team regularly review the benchmarks they use though, and I strongly suspect that at some point BF4 will get added to the list of games they test. At that point they'll retest a variety of cards with the new benchmark suite.
Of course, it would make sense to wait for Mantle before they do that, and despite the Mantle patch being released AMD's supporting beta driver isn't available to the public yet, so I suspect we'll be waiting a while to see BF4 in the benchmarks list - which IMO is the right choice while AMD are still developing the drivers.
Re: I like HEXUS GPU review but...
3DPowa,
Thanks for your post.
We have actually included BF4 in the recent past - here, here, and here being examples - but the reason that it's not currently in the suite is due to the performance inconsistencies every time it gets patched, which seems to be almost daily now.
And with Mantle coming out very soon and adding performance uncertainly into the mix, we are going to wait a week or two before putting it back in.
Rest assured that we will take a look into Mantel-optimised performance as soon as the driver (14.1 beta) is available.
Re: I like HEXUS GPU review but...
I like HEXUS GPU reviews but it needs something more, besides the old games...
I want reviews to show maybe at least the observed core clocks and temperatures in a graph while testing, not just state it.
I think this is important to show a possible relation between the Temperature, Core Clocks, and In-Game performance.
PLUS! it's been a while since I've seen LN2 tests on cards, they used to do those things commonly and now they all got scared because of that "We won't replace that if you overclock it too much" thing from manufacturers.
AND!!! If they could actually do redos of the old card tests during a review of the new one, what I mean is - repeat the testing of older cards and not just cross-reference the data from older reviews. :)
