    Something Petty

    I just noticed something very petty.

    We all know, threads with new posts show up in bold.
    We also know that a thread that has been read is displayed normally.

    Before (if my memory serves me correctly) if you posted in a thread, then looked back at the forum (containing the thread) the thread would show up as read.

    Now, I noticed, when you have read a thread and then post in it, it shows up as bold. (as if you haven't read your own post)

    Very petty, but I just noticed.

    Thought you might like to know

    You are effectively the "last poster in the thread", so it has changed state since you last read it (even if it's a new thread).

    There is no fix for it as Jelsoft have stated that it's that or a massive performance overhead while it does this check. That kind of check would bring larger forums to their knees.

    There is a fine line with all of this.

    The previous version HEXUS ran had this check in and it's performance here was indicitive ONLY of the quality of hardware & software layer.

    On sites with less optimized hardware, VB3rc2 (which we have just upgraded from) had massive performance problems due to "little functions" like this. We are fortunate that we did not suffer these problems because of a strong hardware setup.

    Im not inclined to "hack it in" as it is only a "nice feature" and not critical to site operation.

    Let's be grounded on what a busy site like HEXUS requires to remain at optimal performance. You want it fast but you also want as much flexibility as possible. This is the common medium that is reached.

    F5 = refresh

    and iirc

    Ctrl+F5= refresh but updates all downloaded data from the site that may have been previously loaded from local hard drive.
