    Please close my forum account

Was once told not to associate with negative people or they'll bring you down.

peterb's throwing insults based on telling not-quite-technically-lies, plus abuse of admin status make me no longer able to stay with Hexus. Sticking to the letter of the forum rules while raping the spirit.

So after more than 10 years. Goodbye. Please close account immediately.

    Shame.

Good luck to the good mods (Saracen, Zak, g8na et al).

    Peace and out.

Welcome to forums, I got a month's ban for telling someone that others were not cheating, it was just the fact they were crap at the game.

I've had abuse from an Admin/Mod on here as well in the past. One of them told me that they hope I die lol.. I didn't even bother to report them. I forget who it was, but I could do a search and bring their name up if I wanted.. But, I can sympathise with you on some of them abusing their position (or at least one of them). I've only witnessed that one situation though. So I can't say much else.. Maybe just report the ones causing abuse?

Re: Please close my forum account

As Wasabi has made some allegations himself, I shall exercise my right of reply.

The allegations refer primarily to this post (you will need to click on the links)

    http://forums.hexus.net/question-tim...ml#post3428792

Which was made in response to this (and some earlier ones which you may wish to browse.)

    http://forums.hexus.net/question-tim...ml#post3428790

Below average IQ people shouldn't be allowed to make electoral decisions. They are simply not bright enough to understand.

Which undermines the one man one vote democratic principle

My post was intended to illustrate that the criteria of intelligence is no more valid that any other selective process, such as gender or selective breeding. Women fought long and hard to get the vote, and the principle of Eugenics, a Greek philosophy that in modern form was espoused by Francis Galton and became an academic discipline at many Universities.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenics (I don't regard Wikipedia as necessarily authoritative, but there is some additional info there.

Eugenics was taken up and subverted by the Nazi party in the 1930s and rightly fell into disrepute, although selective breeding is widespread and a necessary tool in animal husbandry.

Wasabi reported my post 48 hours after I posted it, and seems to think my post makes him out to be a NAZI and a sexist.

    I explained my reasoning here

    http://forums.hexus.net/question-tim...ml#post3429103

For the avoidance of doubt, while I disagree with the principle of disenfranchising people in a democracy on the grounds of intelligence, I do not wish to imply that his posts imply that he is either a nazi or sexist. My examples were merely extreme examples to illustrate my view which is that his assertion had no merit.

    As for abuse of power....

As a moderator or administrator, I can delete posts, close threads, ban or suspend member accounts. None of these sanctions have been applied to Wasabi for any posts in the thread. I therefore completely refute that allegation.

I apologise if he has interpreted my post as personally offensive - that was not my intention, although I strongly disagree that voting eligibility should be on the grounds of intelligence.

However, this thread is NOT the place to discuss that particular idea.

    Thank you for your time.

Peterb - Not that my opinion really matters much. But just out of interest, I'm going to have a proper look at your post and links tomorrow. But, I just wanted to confirm, that by saying "I've had abuse from an Admin/Mod on here as well in the past", I wasn't agreeing that you had caused abuse to the guy that started the thread (because I haven't seen it for myself). I was just saying, it's happened to me before. Anyway.. just wanted to say that

Re: Please close my forum account

@wasabi: It would be a shame to lose a respected member of this community over a personal issue between two people on here. Is there no way that you and perterb could resolve the issue privately using PM's?

@peterb: I think it's fair that you have posted a response, one that I have not and will not read, but while you have the right to reply, is making that reply publicly in your own, wasabi's and Hexus' best interests?

We all have our own opinions on here, opinions are like but-holes, everybody has one. There will be times when you see things differently to others, I've experienced that myself with a heated debate on monitor technology, but sometimes it's easier to let these things go and move on. I certainly hope that this is one of those cases.

    ....
    I'll answer that for Peter.

First, it is being dealt with by PM, in part at least, and by me. Partly why it's not a good idea to have threads like this is that people reading them never get the full story.

Second, an accusation of abuse of power was made, publicly, in here. That did not need to have been done. If someone leaves, they could just vanish. They could post a "leaving" message to say bye to everyone else, without making accusations.

But if they choose to accuse a mod of abusing powers in public, it seems reasonable to me for the accused to have a right to respond, similarly in public, and at least reference anyone reading it to what it's all about.

Expecting Peter to let the thread stand with no response to the accusation is, IMHO, unreasonable.

So, realistically, either we allow a right of reply, or we remove the thread and deal with it privately. And if we do that, we'd no doubt be accused of hiding things, sweeping it under the carpet, silencing critics, etc.,

So, given that wasabi choose to do this in public, you can't have it both ways and expect Peter to not even post his perspective on it.

Would you rather we removed the thread? Remove the accusation?

I had a run in with another member a few days ago. We dealt with it, entirely in public. No PMs needed. No hidden chat. Sometimes, though not always, that's best.

Personally I think issues like this should be dealt with privately.

I'd like to add that in the 3 years (or close to) that I have been posting on these boards I have not experienced an incident of Admins abusing their position, though I have had the odd occasion where the way in which an Admin has stated or phrased a response has come across as a little too harsh or abrasive but I do feel that such a response is not the norm for Hexus Admins and I tend to shake it off and let it go.

As for locking or deleting this thread, no, I think that would be a bad idea, I don't trust forums that delete or hide threads they don't like, I think it creates mistrust.

I'm sure that you have matter well under hand though.

It happens from time to time.
Forums are a place full of people who share the same interests but might not have any desire to share with you what else is going on in their life. Sometimes personalities collide on the forum due to an openly different opinion, sometimes outside elements affect peoples judgement and the rest of us would have no way of knowing the root of the cause for that persons behaviour.

I have, in the past, experienced both of these phenomena on Hexus but moved past it and cant think of anyone I hold a grudge against. Hopefully the same can happen here...

Perhaps. But it's wasabi's choice, and maybe he felt it was best this way. It's hard to do much about that after a thread's posted without risking making it either look worse, or be worse. Now, we kinda just have to work through it.

Re: Please close my forum account

everybody relax! I missed that thread entirely, but it sounds like a great debate has gone sour. Sad times as in reading back over it I actually liked the debate going on. While I don't agree entirely with either sides points, the arguments from both sides were quite interesting. Shame it has crumbled into people feeling affronted as a result. Hope Wasabi changes his mind, it's been good having him on here!

I'd rather not name and shame, I doubt that on the rare occasions when this has happened that it was done with malicious intent and I do admit that maybe part of it may have been down to personal interpretation.

Yeah, I guess. hopefully there will be a quick and amicable solution.

    can someone abuse ME pls?

    fact: admins are human
other fact: they aint paid so they do it from love
other middle fact: we bite our tongues so hard some days, it's a miracle we have a tongue left.
other other fact: the internet is like a text message from your wife.. sometimes you get the WRONG end of a message and tell them to poke it right up their washer.....
other other other fact: if you dont like it here.. just dont come back. Just don't log in. It's really easy. But why ask to have your account removed? Just log out. Simples.
