Potential service disruption today
Hi guys,
We're planning on moving some stuff around today, probably in the evening, but potentially there will be some disruption before that.
The forums will be moving to a new VM on different metal. The process will involve a disruption during a dump of the database where pages may not load. Then, I will have to turn the forums off whilst importing the data into its new home, so you'll see a landing page for a while.
The files and HTTP connections will be moved over after that, but through the magic of proxy servers you shouldn't notice that.
I'll try to give a warning closer to when I do this.

I only see one cat in the attached photo with a filename of 'cats'. Clearly a bug ;)
Re: Potential service disruption today
The DNS is starting to propagate and our proxy server's IP wasn't a trusted proxy, so sessions were all getting lumped under the same IP. This may have lead to some people getting locked out under the "x number of attempts" clause the vB implements.
I've fixed this now, and it enabled me to get into the admin panel (which I was locked out of), so presumably fixes things for affected users, too!

Re: Potential service disruption today
OK folks, I'll be closing down the forums shortly. See you on the other side!
Re: Potential service disruption today
Thanks for the heads up.
Good luck. Have fun. ;)
Re: Potential service disruption today
And we're back!
The import takes a while on such a big database. Still, that's the last big DB move we have planned for the forums.
Re: Potential service disruption today
And the web server is moved over.
Some of you might see the old web server for a while, but that won't be a problem, as they're both using the same DB. By tomorrow morning that'll be dispensed with.
Jon and I will keep an eye on things, so if you spot any issues, do let me know!

Steve - you seem to still be wearing the same pants as you were yesterday. Grab a shower and get yourself to bed. That DR guy works you too hard :D
