How come on some forums I don't have to sign in again for months, but with Hexus, I get kicked off in less than a week?
Are you asking from a technical perspective or a management one?
There are good reasons for automatically logging out a user, mainly for security reasons. I need to re-login pretty much every time I need to perform an action that requires admin prove ligers, but normally I stay logged in most of the time.
You may have your cookie policy set up to clear more frequently which could affect how long you remain logged in.
mine keeps me logged in for ages when I click remember me. unless I set history to clear on browser close when obviously it won't as the cookies are deleted on exit.
Bit of both.
Of course if you are admin I see the harm, but as a normal user, a login should last at least a week or even a month.
It's not my cookies because Amazon and other forums stay logged in.
Speaking of security, if staying logged in is secure enough for Amazon...its secure enough for a forum.
I think its something on your end mate, I rarely have to sign in.
Amazon's security posture is their business...
But as others have said, it is something on your set up because I can remain logged in for long periods of time (as a user) so you are either not ticking the 'remember me' box or your cookie settings are very restrictive. If other sites keep you logged in, I'd suggest the former.
I've been signed in since I first registered...
Weird, I do tend to tick the box. Now I'm confused. I'll monitor it over the next few weeks.
Aside from forum updates I don't think I've been signed out of Hexus except for when I clear cookies or something. It could be your browser settings?
You can generally set site settings in browsers. In Firefox, click the globe icon (padlock on secure sites) and you can set cookies to 'allow for session' which would cause cookies to expire when you close the browser.
