    Forum Bandwidth Figures

I know this is often asked in other threads, but I coudn't find it on searching.

What is the bandwidth for the forums?

P.S. I read the thing on the hexus (not forum) history page 103GB was used on one of the days when it was moved to Nildram - what is it on average now. Although that presumably wasn't just the forums.

That's not something we're at liberty to disclose but suffice to say it is a substantial amount

I'm guessing it'll be because they're a business, and there are similar businesses like it. If you were told how much bandwidth was used, you could probably guess at the amount that business is spending. You'd also know how popular that business was, eg more bandwidth = more pages/month looked at = more popularity.

We do use a lot of bandwidth - to be honest it rises each month as more and more pages are added, indexed and more people read the site.

When we launch our new site (v.soon) we will be using more - but due to extra features.

Also - that 103GB in one day was due to downloads, which as you know we do not host anymore.

Would you give us any clues as to these "extra features" on your new site?

    A slightly related question.

Do you know much the google bot indexes the forum? does it always follow every link to the end and index the entire site everytime?

Can you say how much alone the bots take in data transfer?

It's pretty safe to say that no, it doesn't index the entire site every time. It will only look at updated content and even then will only consider content it believes matches the categories they hold for HEXUS and that the post matches the title as the title will appear in the <title> tag and search robots look for content relevance

We may be able to guess at robot data transfer rates but it wouldn't be particularly accurate. You can have more control over it through the use of a robots.txt file but we haven't put one in place as of yet.

I'm not totally sure what it does; but I read about it some time ago. They divert the search bots or something - tell them to 'not look here'!
