Why doesn't hexus make a monthly magazine? Surely hexus has a big enough reputation, a hell of a lot of content, a great team as well as a great community to provide one? I know that all the content is published online but perhaps it'd be delivered more widely if it was delivered in shops?
I dunno, it was just a thought :)
there is no value anymore in the printed press, its online thats the way to go, the closest I think you will see HEXUS come to print is the newsletter, or who knows maybe one day it will launch a online monthly magazine download you can print off at the office's expense :)
But, actual print, unlikely.

Hmm, I think Hexus is based around the forum, not the articles. Although the news sections etc play a key role, I doubt the 'community' could be recreated in print. :)

The trouble is that the 'comics' seem really close to dying and seem to be struggling to make the money they need to stay in circulation.
does this affect any editorial that's published?...
It's not cheap to put something on the news stands and somebody has to pay to do so; in fact two titles have already died this year and another seems set to close around this Christmas.
HEXUS IS focused on delivering unbiased, timely editorial to the masses and we believe we're achieving our aims.
Famished - you're very wrong about magazine revenue streams... the manufacturers and retailErs have started to wise up and understand that HEXUS delivers value like no other...
Our reach is more than most of the comics combined, and certainly more than appear on the news-stands.
We've more cool ideas coming - question is, how much energy we have to do them :iloveyou:
And David gets paid a large backhander for his star appearances in Custom PC! Its in his contract never to publish against them. Or that may be the stellas and mixed grill talking! ;)
I wish I did :) The pay isn't that great - trust me.
Still - I wouldn't want to print a mag - why would you buy them? the 'net is soo much better
Another point in favor of online content is that you don't have to wait a month to get it. Magazines are obsolete when they are issued.
It's true what you say actually David I work next to the whatcar.com team and they are always binging in massive 20k deals for banners etc.

The trouble with print mags is the lead times for a start... 30 days as an average, sometimes more. You can bet your bum that some print titles have just about finished their December issue layout about now.
With a lead time like that, your news is obsolete before it's even printed, especially with more and more people discovering the wealth of info on the net.
Next is omissions and corrections. Which is more attractive, a medium where an omission or correction is printed on page 60, tucked between the small ads wto months after the original article, or a medium where corrections and omissions can immediately be made, and the article re-publicised should it need to be, HIGHLIGHTING the change?
The there's the reach... ANY print publication would eat it's own legs off to have the reach HEXUS enjoys, but to actually do those numbers in print is pretty much damn near impossible with paper... Taking page views and hits into account, we'd most likely need one half of Brazil to be pulped each year! :P
The final factor is distribution, online HEXUS controls HEXUS. In print you need to rely on so many more people and companies to do their jobs just so the mag reaches the shelves... and that's if the shops agree to stock it and then we'd have to refund them for unsold copies and pay for those to be taken away for pulping...
Nah, though print is nice cos it means you can physically fondle and caress HEXUS, it's just too wasteful, time consuming and slow to be able to come even close to dreaming of doing what HEXUS does now...
