As an IT worker wishing to retrain (on my own) can anyone suggest a route to take for gaining a qualification in LINUX, and CISCO networking?

The older I get, the faster I was.
It would be worth doind the cicso certified network associate course but you do require some prior networking knowledge to do this.
Being certified is really the best way to get job offers
There are a couple of Redhat Qualifications you can do

Cisco wise , the CCNA would be a good place to start.
having reacently been on both sides of the hiring process , certifications aren't all that. They help reinforce your experiance , but I've seen people with plenty of qualifications crumble at interview because they dont have the real world experiance to back it up.
If you've got a little bit of spare time or being paid to do it ( like I am at the moment ) then by all means for for some certifications , but they are not the end of the world.
