    More 'For Sale' thread feedback

    Hi,

I don't post a lot as I feel that an awful lot of the posts in almost every forum are 'spam'. I've been a regualr reader of Hexus for some time and can obviously see why there is a 50 post limit. However, for people like my self, I feel that I would have to start putting posts in the forums just to boost my posts up do that I can read the 'For Sale' forum. Would it be possible to have a 50 post limit or be registered for at least 6 months? This way I feel that people wouldn't have to 'spam' just to try and pick up a bargain!

Also how about people who have been around on other forums for ages (like me) , and who had some feedback (before the database got hacked or whatever happened), and now I cant read the forums, even though Im sure that loads of people (ok maybe a bit of an exageration, but a few people), could vouch for my feedback etc...

For sale forum - I'm not worthy.... member for quite a while quite (a few months anyway) and only just got 50 posts only to have them reduced to 15 for spamming (I assume)> I knew I should have posted something for sale while I had the chance. Opportunity missed dang!!!

I think you should extend this plan to other interesting forums like GD and the Hardware/Overclocking forums so that people need 100 posts to get into those too. That should encourage people to post more and not less, and less and not more spam. Its definately the way to encourage membership, and also people will be gagging for theose forums after being restricted to the noobs forums for a while. Also put everyones post count every week back to 0 that'll get 'em posting like crazy.

    Whatcha think?

    Ah I'm only kidding.

I vouch that Twigman has great feedback

Seriously I think his idea has merit for those of us who are here a while and don't say much. But TBH we're probably not the kinda members Hexus is looking for. We're not lippy enough.

(I'll have a minus count soon)

The thing you miss out on though is you've seen someone here for some time and not have 50 posts, they might check the site once a month and i'd personally have issues dealing with someone like this.

I think its a sensible idea and it does encourage people to join in, and its not like its a limited number of forums you can take part in.

Cars, games, computing, programming for just a start, plenty of oppurtunity to take part without spamming.

Worthy posts get noticed here and then you'd be more likely to get feedback on a sale thread.

Some of us don't have the time we'd like to spend on the forums anymore, even though we been here a while, or used to post a lot in the past. We'd have high post counts only for the've been reset a number of times. As the guys from Monty Python say..."help, help! I'm being oppressed!"

Exactly the point i'm making - if you don't have time to check the forums i'm not entirely sure i'd want to buy something off you incase you just disappeared.

I thank you for making my point for me

Umm you rely on the post count? and busy people are not trust worthy.. ah. Can I have lend of a fiver m8?

If you don't rely on the post count (and you shouldn't) then the post count does nothing for security. The ONLY thing its good for is encouraging users to post more. Not because they want to, but because they have to. So in fact it encourages spam. 50 posts will become the new 0 point reference for the for sale forum. The metric has just been shifted upward but its value hasn't changed.

I'm not complaining about it, I have other places to sell buy stuff. I'm just giving my viewpoint which is what forums are all about. if my opinion is judged spam then I'll simply go elsewhere. I have no problem with that. I came here originally because of the "trust" system and as a refugee from all the rubbish on the OcUK forums about a year ago. I even signed up for email and hosting! Now I see my trust account is gone, my post count is gone, and now my new post count is gone. I don't put any value on a post count but Hexus do otherwise they wouldn't be monkeying around with it.

If I wasn't so thick I'd have taken the hint and left by now. But I am so you're all stuck with me.

The point of the 50 posts rule is simply to stop unscrupulous people from making one or two posts soley in For sale and then vanishing for ever more.

Its happened before and it is a protective measure, ok some people are inconvenienced but thats preferable than having people conned by someone who is not part of the community.

And can we have a filter that deletes threads with "for sale forum" in the title!

3 cheers for the thought police. Any other topic you don't like?

PS is that trader feedback meant to link to somewhere?

Hey it keeps the bandwidth up and gives lively debate. Much more fun than I get a .00001% faster overclock by super cooling my underpants.

Now I see my trust account is gone
    http://users.hexus.net/user_profile....lsZV9JRD02MjA=

your trust account is still there. It's inactive as you haven't followed the link in the activation email sent to every member of the trust site over 2 months ago. This may be because the email address in your profile is incorrect. If you believe it may be then email me at az[at]hexus.org to get it fixed

50 posts will become the new 0 point reference for the for sale forum. The metric has just been shifted upward but its value hasn't changed
The value has changed as that person will have shown some of their character in those 50 posts thus making it easier for you to have at least a vague sort of idea what they're like before buying something from them. If they just signed up to the forum and posted something for sale you wouldn't have a clue. It also at least give you some idea of a contact point for that person.

In reality you're getting a free service paid for by Hexus AND on top of that we're trying to help you out by installing some small measure of security to prevent you from being defrauded. Tell you what, why don't we just buy all the hardware for you as well, save you opening your wallets to get the credit card out..... :/

And there was me thinking that this was feedback forum and you want to 'encourage' people to take part in the 'community'....

Also, the point about people not being able to register, post a for sale item and bugger off. I mentioned that in my initial post by saying that you could go how long somebody had been registered. If somebody has been registered for 6 months and posted once, then the likley hood is that they'll forget about this place when they come to scam somebody over a dodgy bit of hardware.....

I feel inspired to go smamming.......

FFS, it was a jokey comment, Regular users of the forum have been inudated with a new thread each week bleating about the 50 post rule.

    Don't people read stickies?
