    Going back

I find it annoying that if you are on the main hexus.net page, then click a link, then use the browsers back button, the page is back at the top, rather than scrolled down to where you actually where.

A friend of mine who is a coder, said that its down to bad coding of the site...wouldn't it be possible to change it so pressing the back button takes you to wherever on the page you were?

    Cheers,
    Chris.

works for me. what browser are you using? IE6 on XP here and everything is ok.

What usually does this is when JavaScript is used to give a search box focus when entering the page. This doesn't happen on Hexus though.

Hmm im using firefox 1.5.0.2 here but it does it on the other pc runing IE6 on XP. It doesnt happen on other sites, just hexus, so i assumed it was a hexus thing and not a browser issue..

    bad coding of the site
I'll try to resist pointing out the flaws in your "coder friend's" comment. Basically, if you go back to a previous page your position can be controlled in one of two ways. Either your position on the previous page was set by an anchor in the page, usually a link with www.blah.com#anchor or your browser stores the location and when you press back it goes back to the same location.

If it was code on the site that was messing up the back button functionality then it should happen on all browsers not just one. There is no code that I'm aware of on the site that will cause the problem in just one browser unless it's an extremely obscure CSS bug and that should have no effect on the x and y position your browser stores for the last known position. Therefore I have to assume it's some problem with the way Firefox handles this. Initially I thought it was down to the page not having fully loaded because you were adblocking intellitxt or something similar as the page would only return to the last position once it had fully loaded.

I can replicate the issue on Firefox (it works fine on IE6) and I'll do some investigation however in the meantime if the main problem is you have to scroll back to your last location then try opening links in new tabs (easily down by pressing the scroll wheel button if you have one on your mouse) and that way you can open a link, read it, close the tab and be back to the same location.

If I find any answers in the Mozilla forums I'll let you know. Thanks.
