    Suggestion for the forum

Hi there, Now I don't mean to be mean or annoying, and I probably shouldn't be ranting about this forum as i'm only a newbie! But i've got a suggestion concerning the computer hardware forum.

A lot of users (like myself) are posting questions or query's about PSU's such as where to get them from or whats the best.

I was thinking, how about making a "Hexus guide to PSU's" as a sticky thread or something similar.

    that's a top notch idea

    any volunteers?

could probably do it for a lot of stuff, gfx cards, motherboards etc. - it's just a question of whether someone's got the time, inclination and knowledge to do it.

Send me sample PSU's and I'll rate them for you. (I'll try anyway!) I'll even send them back if you're wanting them back!

    Seriously, I will.......

    LOL

People should be able to add their reviews of their own PSU experience, perhaps some people may have gone through 2,3,4 power supplys and know which were good which were bad etc

Ahhh! OK, that'll work I suppose! I bought a PC from PC World when I had no knowledge of PCs. The PSU was crap. I now have a PSU that I bought from Maplin for about 20 quid and is pretty good. I think it is a Q-Tec and it has been good to me so far....

But seriously, going from all the bad rep about those PSU's, I could be looking for a new one, even if it is a cheap eBuyer one or something...

I'm not entirely convinced about the idea of Stickying this. The Mod team have a running joke about Sticky's being a good way to make something invisible, since it seems nobody ever reads them.

On another forum where I was a mod, we'd sometimes have a "Hunt the thread" spamfest. People would be allowed to spam outrageously (being aware that after the game was finsihed, the thread would be deleted which would knock back any post count gained from it) ... but they could only spam in THAT ONE THREAD ..... assuming they could find it. The mods would periodically move it about. One bloke managed over 400 posts in one night in one such game.

Well, on one occasion, I changed the title, and put it in GD as a Sticky. It was quite some time before anyone found it

Think about it, unless you are new to a forum, how often do you read Sticky's??

    Yeah, quite

Still, we'll see what people think of the notion.

What worries me is ..... why just PSU's? Why not graphics cards, memory, hard drives, motherboards, and so on. We'd end up with a whole page of Stickies.

Maybe a "Reference threads" forum, with these kinds of threads all in one place. But then, that would probably be even more invisible that a Sticky.

just my 2p, i can see where you're coming from saracen, but i do find some stickys useful & do refer to them from time to time, fair nuf not every day but its useful to have info to hand easily, such as the software forum sticky or the networking sticky so i'll usually have a look whenever i notice a new post - the info isn't always instantly useful but its handy to know its there when required

so....1 vote for stickys here (there, i said it!)
if it ain't broke...fix it till it is
