Please, no, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE !!!
can you remove the minimum character requirement for searching. It has anoyed me in the past when I have ant to search for things, such as RAM
But today I wanted to serch for PSU, and no, it wouldnt let me search for it !
I can't see any technical reason why its not possible ? Is there ? If not PLEASE, remove it
Haven't, you noticed how many 'words' used in computing are actualy just abreviations, consisting of 2 or 3 letters ....

I believe the reason for such a restriction is because of the amount of workload it puts on the server. Although, I'm sure shorty / Az can give you a much better technical reason :)
I do agree though it would be useful, Ive done it many times myself, but the Admins will have to asses the impact it would have before any changes happen.

And no, i cant change stuff like this, I'm only a mod, the admins and the guys you want. What made you think i could do that anyway ? :p :confused:

Maybe if they just gave a list of certain words you could search for, such as PSU, RAM, CPU, EDO ...... etc

I think its the miniumum you can set it to in VBB as the workload is enormous otherwise :)

Thats spot on. the fewer the characters you enter in a search the harder the database has to work so I'm afraid the limit stays as it is or the forums would become a lot slower for everyone. You'll just need to be more imaginative with your searches I'm afraid

Have you guys thought about testing it?

It'll be a simple PHP modification to alter it - one that could always be set back.

What is the spec of the server anyway?
