Is it really neccassary to have 50 posts to use the 'for sale' forum?
I've got a good trust rating but don't post much.
Shouldn't I be allowed to use the 'for sale' forum?
Yes.
And if you have such a good trust account - where did you gain it from? Using it on other forums is fine, we endorse it. However, does this give you a passport to a favourable part of ours?
I don't see why not.
What's the problem?
I got a good trust account and so am reliable.
Isn't that the whole point?
For the record, most of my transactions were made via OcUK but I did make a few on here. However, I lost my original user name and password a year or so ago. It's not like I've never posted here before.I did post here quite a bit infact.
It's not a major issue, just a point to bear in mind really.
The point is that the for sale forum is there for usage by frequent posters on the forums in general (and by frequent I don't mean spam). Therefore once you have contributed to our community you will gain access. The trust system is there to allow users to gauge how trustworthy you are for trading and is separate from the forums. Whilst we are happy that you are taking advantage of this free service that we provide to help you carry out online trades, we don't feel that asking you to put a bit back into the community is too much. In fact, you may even enjoy it and contribute more.
This may be down to our eternal misguided optimism though.
Because people want to use it and not everyone has a trust profile. Therefore it encourages people to contribute to the community and gives them some incentive to do so and for those that don't use users.hexus.net it gives other traders an opportunity to learn a bit more about that person.Whilst we are happy that you are taking advantage of this free service that we provide to help you carry out online trades, we don't feel that asking you to put a bit back into the community is too much
The 50 post limit isn't going to change. We provide you with a free service that uses up our bandwidth and asking you to give something back before using our site to make money isn't exactly asking for too much.

this has been discussed many a time before, but if you were selling something, wouldn't you like to be safe in the knowledge that your buyer will be online frequently - so you don't have to wait around?
It's nice to see somebody who doesn't have access to the for sale forum agree with the rule!

Just because you are not on the Hexus forum frequently ,doesn't mean that you are not online and not contactable via email ,MSN etc etc.
Sorry to be pedantic, but I can't really see the problem here.
Isn't offering to sell something that someone might want at a cheap price , 'putting something in' ?"You've gotta put something in, to get something out"
This is a free community which encourages it's members to participate in discussions![]()
No offence, but just surfing in to sell the odd item here and there isn't participating. It's not much to ask, when services like users and retailer ratings are provided for free, even if you do sell primarily on other sites. Alot of sites wouldn't support that or would charge for it. We don't.
Building and maintaining a system like Trust takes alot of money and time, and that is just part of the site. There is alot that goes into keeping it all afloat. These systems see a high level of traffic all day, everyday.. which requires alot of power, bandwidth and money. The ads don't always cover it all when things get really busy. If it were about money, David & crew would have stopped it when it started eating into their money..or filled the site to the brim with 468x300 square banners and popups... but they didn't and won't. It's not the way it works here and never would be.
It's not much to ask for a small amount of participation in a good community so you can use one forum (50 non-spam posts is not that hard to do, try it around here.. you'd like it.. it's hardly heavyhanded), when you already use a free service that is as comprehensive and as good as it gets (and would beat any pay service if one was ever introduced).![]()
"In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?"
Yes, if we were running ebay, which we're not. HEXUS is about Technology News and Reviews and it's this focus that we want to promote on the forums so that people can visit and get other people's opinions on technology and kit and any other PC related info.Isn't offering to sell something that someone might want at a cheap price , 'putting something in' ?
You're not being pedantic, you're just expressing your opinion which has been noted. However, we stand by our rule as we want Hexus to be focused on the above, not on becoming a trading forum
lol i havent been here long and this thread will just keep coming back...lol
tbh I cant see the problem either, but it seems to be a sore point, anyway just keep replying back with your views and you'll soon be up to 50 anyway...lol

I know, we will close the for sale forum then.
