Agreed on both points, I can handle the keyword ad's in articles, if they appear in the forum I'll have to strangle someone

That is odd, I dont remember changing any options for it. it was pretty much the same box as the go advanced page.

The one labeled 'Smiles'. I didn't have the other Go advanced options in there though.

I'm not certain exactly what caused it, but on my last post, I noticed a back box to the right of the reply box. I know now that this was an advert that didn't show properly. Firefox froze, so I'm guessing it was that advert that caused it.

I'm not too fussed about these adverts tbh. As a user, I preferred it below the reply box, but you'd get more people looking at them where they are now.

I have a question though. Do you get money from people just looking at them, or do we have to click them also?

Varies some you do, some you don't.

Advertising is very difficult to get in current markets, despite what some websites may report in the news about spending figures...

Feedback - Not sure I prefer this new way of doing things

It looks a bit smarter, but I do find the fact that it's an animated ad now quite distracting when typing the text. Fixed image ads in that position would be better.

Possibly it does scream 'we need to get money from advertising' a little bit too loudly for an otherwise very user friendly forum.

Put it this way - if I'm going to click on an ad it's generally only the top banner that I've used. This aditional ad really doesn't increase my chance of clicking or purchasing anything, but it does impact the quality of the site. If you can show that it is increasing revenue then fair enough, however I think you should be monitoring these things and if it's not then you should consider a less intrusive (non-flash) advert.

I have to say I don't like it either, but its better than either flash (which I have to block because it makes my laptop hot and slow) or the in between posts that some sites use which makes it hard to follow. Have you thought about some crime using an ad free Hexus as a front as a way to pay the bills? Nobody would have a problem with that.

I've noticed the Google ad's seem to a take up far too much space sometimes, half as much again as the flash ones.

    I think the situation is:

Not logged in = full ads
logged in = 'medium' amount of ads
logged in subscribers = no ads

I'm not a subscriber myself, but perhaps that might be an option for here aswell?

    TT is £10 p/a IIRC.

I don't mind those ads being there tbh, I didn't really notice 'em until I saw a thread about them!

Who would be interesting in paying a fee each year to remove adverts?

I think I mentioned something similar to Steve on MSN a while back. I think removing ads would be a start if we were paying, but if we could get some kind of recognition for supporting you guys that would be cool too.

Not to the lengths that sites like gamespy and IGN etc. go by restricting the content, thats the last thing you want to do, you would loose a lot of active members I'm sure.

Coloured name/no ads goes down well in quite a few places. I'd sign up, presuming it wasn't extortionate.

Only downside I can see for you; is the price of this will be less than the revenue of us watching the ad's, but thats for you and your calculator to figure out

I'd definately consider paying a subcription fee, the adverts don't bother me that much, but If anything helps keep hexus going from strength to strength then I'm all for it.
