We can't really turn ours off completely, we've programmed it to come on for 30 mins every day just to tick over..
We used to turn it off completely over the late spring/summer/early autumn, but it started seizing up when we wanted to turn it on again and it started to get expensive to keep calling the plumber out..
We'll turn in on in the morning/evenings once we get into November

With a young daughter we have to make sure the house is comfortably warm
F@h FTW TBH...
Have my 2 Quads Folding in my room, all windows and doors closed, ionizing filter, my room is about 24'C constant now.
Will need more power when Winter actually comes.

Depending on what it is that "seizes up" it can be fairly easy to fix.
A pump that gets a rust spot on it can be freed up really easily - usually.
Modern heating systems tend to run the valve and pump briefly every day, even if there's no demand - guess you don't have such a setup.
I've only just moved into my 1st flat with the other half, up till now we've been foolishly running the heating all morning and all evening + using a gas cooker... if we don't change that habit im sure we'll be expecting rather large bills!
i would turn it on for a couple of hours during the night at say maybe from 4am in the morning and let it switch off automaticly around 9am when your already at work.
Rinse and repeat until it gets really cold.
Luckily i have a family friend who deals with our boiler and any other electrical stuff in our house for free(well i pay for the equipment if need be but not the labour)
.
Then again i do him favours computer wise
