I want to paint a fish tank cabinet would it look good ?
I am thinking of buying this fish tank from someone locally, as its a really good deal, but I would need to match it with the rest of my furniture, which is black or oak
Would this be difficult to do and how would I best go about it ?

Would like it to look like one of these

Depends if it's solid wood, veneered, or just "wood effect". Either of the first two wouldn't be too bad, you could lightly sand the existing finish and use a dark varnish, which should still leave the wood grain showing through.
If it's one of those cheapo mdf + plastic finishes you're looking at some kind of matt wood paint to cover the surface, and it's probably not going to look great whatever you do to it...

'laminated wood' is often found on these types of cabinet. If it uses this, you won't have much luck with any method.

Yup - those ones are not veneered or solid. :( It's laminated particle board I thinks.

Couldnt I get it wrapped ? like I haer people do with their kitchen cupboards

It will definitely be a veneered stand - a Rio 180 or 240 right? I have seen people have some success with dyes, but paints etc. will just look silly and often make the veneer buckle or go wrinkly. I think you'd be better off cladding it in another material or something like thin sheets of acrylic?

Look, let me level with you - if you paint it, it will look bloody awful. Sorry, but it will make it look like cheap tat :)

Is it really a good deal if you have to faff around with it to get what you really want - with mixed chance of success?
A good deal would be the one that you really want at a price you can afford. Walk away.

If the deal is a really good deal for the tank and equipment, why not just look for a separate stand?
You could ask if the seller is willing to split the items (unlikely I expect), or you could try to flog the stand after you've bought it.
Depends on how good the deal on the aquarium is.
