Hair Clippers - Recommendations please gents

My last pair of Wahls gave up a while ago (on-off switch broke) and whilst I bought another pair(of Wahls!) in the US (was there 4 months) they are 115v and imagine will either explode or scalp me if I plug them into the mains over here...

I used to have a set of cordless Remmingtons but the guard broke in half... and the guards for the Wahls seemed pretty flimsy.

Just noticed I've been calling them a 'pair of hairclippers'... feels wrong and right at the same time...


Anyhow, budget isnt too much a of a big deal as a haircut would be £20 so even if it takes 3 haircuts to pay back (e.g. 6 weeks) it's still a bargain.

Only requirements are that it'll do a grade 2 (0.7mm) haircut.

But broke the two guides I use most, by bouncing it off the floor. Twice, obviously. I bought a Wahl one to replace it, but tend to go back to the Babylis, and use the Wahl guides with it. It's got a nifty turbo button that gives you extra buzz when it seems like the battery's going.

Alternatively, Boots usually have something on offer, or Sainsburys, if it's a big one. I don't think I've ever paid more than £20 for my clippers...

They're compatible? I have 2xGrade 2 guides leftover from my Wahls and I'm always worried I'll break the guide halfway through a haircut and then either a) look like a nob b) have to look like a nob going to the hairdressers or c) look like a thug if I take it down to grade 1

Me either, but was hoping slightly more money might = slightly better guards... the wahls were rather flimsy and meant I had stripes going down the sides of my head if I pressed too hard

They're both, mains rechargeable, and they hold the charge too

Absolute rubbish. I bought one thinking it would be ideal, how wrong I was. It's basically a glorified vibrator that's crap at cutting hair but excellent at given headaches. Took mine back and exchanged it for the Wahl.

Most guides are compatible across brands I think - unless you get those smaller clipper/grooming sets.

I couldn't imagine using them to tidy anywhere else. One slip and it's gone!

Which model of Wahl? I have one of these that I brought over from Australia and I've been cutting my own hair monthly (0 setting - I'm lazy and like it as short as possible) for close to 10 years with them. Never even sharpened or changed the blades to date, but I do have to go slower else they pull a bit since they're blunt now!

You can buy a separate set of clipper guides that fit perfectly. If you shop around there are places that will sell them individually, or better yet the higher quality ones with metal attachments made from good quality plastic (professional series basically) for several quid.

Avoid these at all costs. They are absolutely crap! All they do is shake your head, and with the "guards" being made of very stiff plastic it goes right through your head. I threw mine in the bin in the end, kept the trimmer though cos that's actually decent.

Babyliss is a good brand to go for though, just avoid the Easy Cut.
