My upgraded 6ft Marine Reef Aquarium

Over the years I've had numerous tanks and numerous and varied aquatic livestock. A couple of months ago I finally bought my own house (on my own!) and so decided it was time that I set my 6x2x2ft tank up as the marine reef I'd always wanted. I had pretty much all the equipment already, it was just a case of putting it all together...

    - 6 x 2 x 2 ft All Glass aquarium
    - 2 x 30W T8 Luminaires
    - 2 x AquaRay Blue / White LED bars
    - 4 x powerheads totalling 4750LPH
    - Tunze 9211 DOC Classic Skimmer
    - Eheim 2217 filter

    soon to be added
    - Hang on refugium
    - Carbon / Phosphate reactor
    - Doors for cabinet to be built
    - Auto top-up system

Immediately after moving tank contents from old house....

After a bit of aqua-scaping a week or so later once it had all settled....

Last week I was given a whole tanks worth of stock from a friend!....

A few week and some further aqua-scaping and now it looks like this:

And if you fancy watching a video (taken on my phone!) I put on Youtube, go here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUAY9vQbO68

    Stock includes:

    - Regal Tang
    - 2 x Goldrim tang
    - Coral Beauty angel
    - Flame angel
    - Black Clarkii Clown
    - Percula Clown
    - Valentini Puffer
    - 9 x Pyjama Cardinal
    - Blue Stripe Pipefish
    - 2 x Blue Spot Cardinal
    - 1 x Orange-Stripe Cardinal
    - Many inverts
    - Many soft corals

    very nice setup.

I have freshwater, if I had the space I'd like something as big as this.

Re: My upgraded 6ft Marine Reef Aquarium

Thanks guys - A tank this size has to be on the ground floor in most houses, its got approximately 650l of water alone plus another 400kg of tank and stand. More pics following shortly!

    Looks mint!

What filtration method you using ? Just live rock, external filter and a skimmer ?

I always wanted to go marine, but i think that i would be to lax. My dream is to work with aquariums / fish for a living somehow.

Re: My upgraded 6ft Marine Reef Aquarium

Yep that's right. Very mature live rock and plenty of water movement. The skimmer obviously just needs to then remove the excess proteins.

Curiosity kills the cat...but how much does it cost you to run this per month? and do you use your own way of mixing up the correct water? i have a spare tank which is suited for marine Your fish are beauts and if i could keep some like that i would in a heartbeat!

Re: My upgraded 6ft Marine Reef Aquarium

As it currently is, including stock, ive probably spent a couple of thousand? Mixing the water isn't hard if you have a refractometer to measure the salt levels and with the right balance of fish, inverts and lots of 'live' rock I don't actually do much cleaning!

As for running costs I'm not sure but the tank uses between 200 and 500W depending if lights and heater are on. Food probably costs £5-10 a month.
