    Migraines!

Anyone else here unfortunate enough to suffer from these? Not had one for about 3 years until today and boy did it let me know how much I dont miss them. 4 paracetamol and one ultra strong co-dydramol later and 2 hours in a dark room im just about over it.

Didn`t help I had a near 2 hour drive home from work with my right eye feeling like someone was pushing a red hot poker into it constantly.

i have trouble due mainly to dodgy eyes - have you got a eye blindfold - find this helps even in a dark room.

    Tried investigating possible allergic causes?

Some things are well-known triggers (chocolate, cheese, booze and smoking for a start) but that's the tip of the iceberg.

If that is the cause, avoid the trigger and avoid the result. Oh, and if you get a chance to watch the "Food Hospital" from a day or so ago (C4, I think) they treated one little boy suffering from crippling migraines with, well, food. Dietary changes on their own seem to have solved his problem.

    Re: Migraines!

Had them all my life. Vision effects and vomiting, the works. No pain killers work worth a damn.
I have found my trigger (long periods of stress) and found that carrying aspirin seems to help.

I get the Dispirin meltlets that don't need water and take two at the earliest sign of the vision effects, being the precursor. Does nothing for the pain but can avoid the attack completely or shorten it considerably.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

    Re: Migraines!

Same as 0iD, been to see specialists, got list upon list of tablets etc to try nothing touches the sides. I started getting them from the age of 10 and I am now 30, all they say is that you "may" grow out of them by you mid 40's. I highly doubt it but I can get them for up to 7 days at a time and I will go to sleep and wake up with them and I barely get more than a few weeks without them.

In the end you learn the signs and then start preparing for them to hit you. Tried most off the shelf remedies to try and sort them but in the end I gave up wasting money on tablets and just learnt to deal with them, every so often though you get the big one that really knocks you for 6 and you can barely function. I have tried finding the triggers to it but it seems I can go to sleep and then wake up with the things and the specialists just pass you onto the next quick fix in the list, tried changing diets etc and nothing seems to have stopped them as yet.

    Re: Migraines!

Another sufferer here! Over the last few months I've been taking Magnesium supplements as well as a B vitamin supplement and - though it's hard to say because they're largely without a discernible pattern - they do seem to have been better since I've been on this regimen.

Migraleves were the only pills that really helped me - when they're bad though, nothing touches them. Evil bloody things.

    Re: Migraines!

Mine are done by tension in my back muscles. A quick trip to my chiropractor or a deep tissue massage helps me.

Also stress and tired and looking at a screen for prolonged periods of time doesn't help. While I only get a migraine in extreme cases (the rest are just bad headaches) I get the pounding headache with the nausea feeling and basically am good for nothing unless it wears off, which by drinking water and eventually eating something and taking pain killers it goes off, but my head is still foggy.

    Re: Migraines!

I tend to eat/ drink something sugary and keep my eyes closed when they start to come on, I think mine are due to low blood sugar.

Touch wood I've not had one for quite a while now though.

    Re: Migraines!

I get them terribly when im unfortunate enough to do so. I used to get them all the time as a kid. The art of learning when to recognise one is due and taking lots of painkillers seems to have put them at bay though.

That said, sometimes you get one where the pre-symptoms are unrecognisable (or might not have any at all) and then suddenly hits you out of no where.

    Re: Migraines!

I get them when my eyes are out of whack and I'm dehydrated.

I get all the visual disturbances - always in the same order.

Blank Spots > Fuzzy Lines > Pins and needles in nose, then fingers, Vision comes back then BAM Headache.

I've found migraleve to be very effective and also making sure the brain (and body) is well hydrated. Get your eyes checked regularly as it was a simple prescription change that sorted mine right out. (My left eye is my leading eye, but the prescription had changed so that it was forcing my right eye to be stronger, which my left eye and brain didn't like one bit.)

Also, make sure you take your required "vision" breaks away from the screen and adjust the brightness (of screen or other things in your vision) if it's causing eyestrain.

They're horrible, but you're not alone!

    Re: Migraines!

I think my problems lately are stress and my eyes, was diagnosed with stigmatism a few years back but not bad enough for the need of glasses then. I have a feeling htey gotten a lot worse since and are now really straining to keep focus, if I relax my vision tends to go a bit blurry!

So nice to wake up this morning feeling human again, bit fuzzy but my right eye no longer feels like someone is stabbing it!
