    Spec me some... wellies

Just the sort of thing a techie crowd should know. But I don't, owing to always grabbing whatever was available from the communal basket by the door while growing up in the country.

    Usage - Walks in Scotland/Mull/Iona

Specific factors - I'm narrow heeled so don't like too wide fitting shoes/boots

Budget - They're not something I'll be using too often, so under £50 ideally.

    Ta!

    Re: Spec me some... wellies

Production of Hunters shifted to China a while back and the quality suffered. The best boots I have tried, and subsequently purchased are Grub Stalkers, another option is Muck Boots (in whatever flavour you fancy). The reasons I went with the Grubs is the excellent insulation, and a very grippy vibram sole (similar to walking boots sole). Just be warned that neoprene boots tend to be very warm, I tend to wear them with the tops rolled over unless its very cold. If you want to try some good wellingtons try your local fishing tackle or gunshop, most stock a good range, including some very expensive ones. Ip icked my Grubs up in the sales for just over £50.

I have a pair of Muck boots and they are great. I got them a little late this year so didn't make the best use of them last winter.

I have the full height ones, and for me they are a little too high, mid calf would have been better i think.

What kind of socks do you have? It's vital to get wellies that are on the compatibility list for your socks.

Also, are you prepared to upgrade parts of them from time to time, or did you want to get one pair that will last a long time and then you can just buy a whole new pair when they're obsolete?

    Re: Spec me some... wellies

I have some user experience information regarding Hunter(my sister owns a pair). They are brilliant for general use, comfortable and rugged, but when used for extended periods of time they can be uncomfortable. She found this out when she went to bestival this year, thought they were amazing before using them for more than 3 hours at a time. Something I thought was worth considering.

I need to get a pair at some point, might add some recommendations to research list.
