Hi
Looking for a decent, timed, oil filled radiator to take the chill out of our 18 month old's bedroom, so she doesn't keep waking up and crying at 4am....
Does anyone have any recommendations?

Sorry - not used one for a while due to the power comsumption.
Pretty much any of the standard ones from Comet, Argos, Macro, B&Q etc. There isn't much to them tbh!
hold up.... woah
from experience, there is a HUGE variation on quality. Cheaper ones have a rubbish, low grade oil in, often wrong levels of moisture in the oil, bad welds (read: leaks) , rubbish timers, and crap thermostats.
What you need, is a DeLonghi BAMBINO

... which is exactly what I have in my lads room for exactly same reason. However.. I have a seperate timer in the wall which I can change every couple of years so it stays reliable and safe without needing a whole new radiator.
The quality of the heating element inside, the quality of the circuits etc in cheap heaters is what makes them cheap. Even the efficiency. It's £50.. but in 5 years you'll know it was right. I got a cheap one from Argos to start with.. took it home, used it one night with the truty mains power meter pluged in. and it was rubbish. It fluctuated it's current drain, the thermostat didn't work accurately, and it sounded (and weighed in) as though it was half filled with oil. It was rubbish. I took it back, got a Bambino.. and it's perfect. Better warmth, lower power use, smaller.
If the room is larger, yuo might need a larger heater. once again, stick with known brands,, and ones which yuo can switch off the heating elements individually as well as having a good thermostat.
the Dimplex 2kw is a cracker.

But for me the bambino is best. The thermo works really well and it's rounded, and smooth so when it's off, and the kid is near it, there is no sharp edges.
we used one of these for our kids were little

cheap to run and didnt heat the room alot just took the edge off it

+1 for Delonghi, wouldn't buy another brand.
I stand corrected, humbled in the face of experience. :) Partly my own fault for not checking the make of my own (8 year old) OFR.
And it is a De Longhi Dragon which iirc I bought from Makro for around £40. So I can endorse De Longhi, and take back my comment about all being much of a muchness.
tbh if it were me i would build a bitcoin miner. get a 5870 running 24 /7 and i bet that would heat the little guys room. Just an idea :)
Oh and get one with a timer on it - perfect :)
another +1 for Delonghi, ive got one ive had for years.
Thanks for that Zak. Bought one and a timer, and my daughter slept through last night even though it was monster cold this morning. :)
Not so sure about the efficiency, with electronics the waste byproduct is generally heat, light or sound and as the elements in most heaters these days don't produce light or sound, presumably by definition even the "waste" heat is doing the job that it was bought for resulting in close to 100% efficiency regardless.
In any case, I have a 14 year old De Longhi oil filled, still working fine, can't say if their new ones last, but the old dragons certainly do.
