The problem is turning them off when you don't want them to be on - you don't want to have to reach in and change the batteries or flick a switch.

You could probably sneak the wire out the back with a battery pack and a switch, but it would be cool to inline them properly with the main lamp so they turn on/off at the same time.

I've got a three litre over size Smirnoff bottle heading my way so I'm thinking of finding a wall bracket for a bottle that size and using LEDs to turn it into a wall lamp/glow bottle and hiding the switching in a Smirnoff optic so I'll probably be posting a thread sooner rather than later

Do you mean the sort of thing that a barman would use to put them on the wall in pubs? I'm sure I've seen one of them in my attic, and if I'm not mistaken, it's for the bigger bottles as well..

Will have a look tomorrow and ask my mam if you can have it, if that sounds like the right thing?

Yeah that's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking at dude, most of the ones online seem to be for 1/1.5 litre bottles but if you've got one spare that's the right size I'll happily knock you a few quid for it

Might be worth making the whole thing DC then using an off the shelf wall adapter?

You can get some nice 12V dc bulbs these days for the main light, then it's fairly trivial to run the in-bottle circuit off the 12V supply

I'm guessing those are sample size? Either that or you've got the biggest crimbo tree in the world!

Haha yeah they're 50cl miniatures. I'd been looking for something to do with them for a while but seeing as I couldn't work out how to fill a bottle with them I figured they'd make decent enough fairy lights

I had a proper rummage about in the loft before and couldn't find it, although I did ask my mam if she knew where it was and she hasn't a clue either.

But.... All is not lost, my uncle is the landlord of a pub in Appleby, and I just so happen to be going for Christmas day, ya know, traditional old pub, all to ourselves until about 2pm on Christmas day, perfect!

So I thought I'd ask him if he has any old ones knocking about...

I'll get back to you and let you know
