Wall Thermostat central heating

I do not know if this is an appropriate subject for discussion But here goes
I have noticed that it is general practice to site a wall thermostat that controls a central heating boiler in the hall way and the rest of the rooms controlled by radiator thermostatic valves
This results in the hall way being the hottest space in the house
Whereas it would seem to me that the living room would be a better for the wall thermostat controlling the boiler and the remaining spaces including the hall way controlled by radiator thermostatic valves
Are there any heating engineers who would offer a comment please

I take it to whatever room i am in (If i am home alone that is)

That way that room gets to the specified temp, if everyone is home it tends to live in the living room

But what happens to the temperatures in the other rooms Are they controlled by thermostatic valves on the radiators and if so why not use these vales to control the rooms you visit?

I'm not a heating engineer but, I have a friend who is.

The reason the normal location for the Room stat (or Chronotherm as the intelligent ones are called) is in the hall is because that is the room likely to be the coldest, Due to the front door being opened. If the other rooms of the house are at temperature the TRV's will have shut off the flow and so only the hall will be brought back upto temperature by the room stat calling for heat.

If the room stat was in the living room which was at the correct temperature the hall could be below zero and the room stat would not call for heat.

The room stat should not be situated in a room with TRV's as it won't have 'true' control.

Chronotherms can learn the heat requirements and make requests for heat based on it's learned values of heat loss.

Ours is actually on a wall that is middle of the ground floor.

Our house is laid out so that the kitchen, dining room and living room are directly connected without doors and only an L shaped wall blocking view of the kitchen from the living room, there is then a door dividing the hallway, stairs and front door from the rest of the ground floor, essentially it's wide open.

So I suppose it is technically on the dining room wall

It sounds an ideal arrangement. Do you have any thermostatic valves operational on the radiators or do you rely on the wall thermostat (Chronotherm) only?

we have basic flow control valves on the radiators everything is controlled solely by the wall thermostat.

This house is very well insulated though so even overnight when it's below freezing outside with the heat turned off it only drops a couple of degrees

I use normal thermostat on each radiator system. Works fine.

Home automation would allow you to control room temperatures independently, for example if you were to have independent underfloor heating circuits in every room.

If you wanted to be a bit fancier you could have two or more thermostats and some zone
valves controlling the heating to specific areas.

The thread is building to a good knowledge base on heating controls

I think that my wall thermostat is not sensitive enough

Could some one recommend a good programmable wall thermostat that could be relied on to give a tolerance of plus/minus 0.5 degrees
The boiler is too far away for a wireless thermostat
The prog setting could be a daily one only since we are at home all day
Indeed if it was accurate I would settle for a manual peration
