Help in Identifying an Orchid?
Since there isn't a gardening/plant section to this forum - yet - I'm posting here.
Can anyone help me identify an orchid that my wife and I received as a gift?
The trick in this is that it doesn't seem to be in the best shape, it's been cut back so there are no flowers, just the foliage. I'm hoping I can save it.
I'll post a pic shortly - just realised my camera isn't here!
Re: Help in Identifying an Orchid?
Its unlikely that anyone will be able to help. There are thousands of species of cultivated, hothouse orchids...
It should survive, we have a few, and cutting right back puts them into a sort of hibernation. Fingers crossed yours will sprout again within 18 months or so.
Re: Help in Identifying an Orchid?
Cutting back is the recommended thing to do. It probably looks just like a stick but should be fine. As to type, I wouldn't have a clue even with a picture ;)
Re: Help in Identifying an Orchid?
IIRC, orchids prefer coolish shaded or semi-shaded locations, a north or north east facing facing window, away from a radiator. I don't think they like too much water on the roots, but do like humidity. But I'm certainly not a an expert!! If you are asking about types, you probably know much more than me about them!
