Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
I'm moving flat soon & am looking forward to having a (much) larger bedroom for which I plan to buy a nice new desk. I don't have a car & the only shop local to me that sells furniture is Argos so I'm looking for places that deliver.
I want something simple, but sturdy. My original plan was to get the Vika Byske tabletop from Ikea (I live in Fife but the Ikea in Edinburgh will deliver for a price) which is solid beech & the sort of size I want (155x75cm) however it is currently out-of-stock with no news on when it will be restocked. I have also been looking at the Ikea Galant which is very popular on other forums, but isn't solid wood.
So, any recommendations on where to buy a desk that will deliver?
Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
Well... Argos will deliver so have a look there?
Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
I've checked Argos already & nothing's any good. Predominantly these little 'computer workstation' desks that barely have room for a single 17" LCD!
Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
Maybe you could try Staples or Viking Direct.
Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
If you want a decent desk, go to a decent retailer....try Debenhams, John Lewis.
For reference I'd expect a desk to be a minimum of 1000cm wide x 600cm deep to provide a comfortable area, ideally 1200mm wide x 700mm deep.
Also try some specialist websites?

Edit: Remember you'll get what you pay for. I'd expect a decent desk to be at least £200ish.

Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
Looks like getting something nearly identical to what I have at work might end up being the best option, although it might make home feel a bit like still being at work! Looks like Ikea would land me with a hefty delivery charge as well, whereas desk-warehouse claim to do free delivery.

Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
I bought from desk warehouse. No oroblems, the desk was delivered direct from the mfr.
Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
Tesco have a decent selection and deliver.
Can get TCB from them usually and sometimes have free delivery over £50 spend at Tesco Direct too.
Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
Ikea has some nice large no-frills desks.
Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
When I last asked on here, consensus was Ikea. Wound up with a pair of Ingo dining tables and a Vika Amon surface.
Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
Gone for an Ikea Galant in the end (160x80cm, T-leg, grey surface) with 2x lengths of Signum cable trunking for underneath. Picked up a few other things too like a nice rug, floor protector, bedding, lighting... oh & a soap dish!
Delivery on Friday, I'll update the 'Show off your Workspace' thread at the weekend probably!
Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
I was looking at Jual Curve (~£270) over the weekend, but went for a smallish wooden desk from Oak Furniture Land, as it was a steal (although they seem to have a bad rep for customer service online). Viking Direct has a few nice desks too around the same price range. Cheap stuff is nasty (I owned a few in my time), but obviously, you don't always have an option.

Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
Huzzah! Not perfect, but it's a helluva lot better than what I had before! In hindsight I think I should've gone for the A-legs rather than the T-legs; there is quite a bit of forward-backward wobble when typing/leaning on the front of the desk, which would probably be much less with the A-legs. Ah well, I can always pick up some A-legs the next time I happen to be in Edinburgh!

Re: Where to buy a desk (delivered)?
After 4 days & re-tightening & re-leveling I'm going to see if I can return it. It wobbles far too much when doing perfectly normal desk-related activities like typing or writing. It's incredibly irritating to have the monitors wobbling about when (softly!) typing!
I've just got to hope that the returns policy doesn't depend upon me returning it in person to the store - because I can't! In that case I'll have to try selling it locally at a loss.

I have the exact same desk from ikea, same legs but different colour top, I personally dont notice any wobble at all. I cant remember if the desk has adjustable feet but it might be worth looking at them?
