WC - push button or handle

I have to buy a new toilet for bathroom. I have always had the traditional lever toilet but most sold now are push button type. I suggested these but my relatives were advising me against as they thought it looks a bit complicated to fix.

Are the push button toilets reliable and easy to fix when they don't work ? Do brand names matter when it comes to toilets?

Or should I stick with traditional lever handle as you can source parts easily, everyone knows how to work it.

If anyone has had the push button for a considerable period your input would be great.

I replaced 3x lever jobs with push buttons (same cisterns, just replacing the actual flush mechanisms inside & the lever on the outside with a button) & the push button ones are infinitely simpler. The ones I used there was literally just a flap at the bottom which opens when you push the button & closes when you release the button. Can't get much simpler than that!

just make sure that if the buttons going on the side, that the cistern is firmly connected to whatever it needs to be.
my dad fitted a button on our downstars toilet, and after a few weeks of usuage, the cistern looked like the tower of pisa and the floor like a kids paddling pool.

Got push button systems in the three bathrooms here - no issues. Two are Grohe systems, no idea on the make of the other one - all work fine.

One advantage with the push buttons over the lever ones is they have 2 flush quantities.

At our old house we fitted one but, I was not impressed with it as the buttons screwed into the flush unit through a hole in the cistern top. The problem is that it used to turn around and cause problems.

At this house I fitted a better one where the button unit is secured in the lid and has two rigid pushrods that press buttons on the flush unit. Not had any problems at all with it since fitting, Also it has adjustable water quantity for the main flush.

Hiya lost eden. Can you tell me if the diameter of the push button is more or less the same as the hole for the lever please? Or does the pusg button have to stand proud? Many thanks

Been using button flush most of my life and only ever recall helping my father fix one of them. They're pretty reliable if you get something reasonable. Grohe is very popular and never had issues with them. I find they're a cleaner look at the end of the day.

I ended up picking up one from screwfix on promotion. 60gbp.

I notice the two button system on my one is pointless. Maybe branded ones have more sturdier buttons or even separate. On this one it is integrated with main 6ltr button so pressing it gets you the full flush.
