    Roundup on unwanted grass.

we have tiles in our back yard in between the tiles there is grass coming up.

We have been a bit too busy to do anything about it until now but now it's gotten pretty thick.

I was figuring I would just spray the unwanted grass with roundup which should kill it.

However after doing some reading it seems there is a right time of year to do this and if you get it wrong the roundup won't work.

Roundup is very expensive here so I want to make sure it works right.

So question have I now missed the time window that this would be effective?

Last week I chucked some roundup on the grass that was coming up through my patio and it's worked fine - the grass is all but dead.

AFAIK roundup works best when the plant is actively growing. So, not effective in Autumn or Winter.
I expect that given all the rain your grass is still growing, or is it brown ?

    Re: Roundup on unwanted grass.

Roundup is basically gylphosate (can be found cheaper online), you need to use it in dry weather as the leaves absorb it it will die down but grass is very hardy and will always come back in time, the only way to stop it is to cut the light by weed control fabric or gravel etc...

I use a blowtorch, works wonders on weeds & cheaper than roundup.

    Re: Roundup on unwanted grass.

Between the tiles you have a large gap. I recomend you to deconstruct the old tiles in your back yard and make new pave so you will not have problems then. The Roundup is temporary solution. After year or two you will have the same problem.

Actually no there is not a large gap the tiles are quite tight together but grass will always grow through the smallest of crack.

I have no idea why you though there was a large gap as I never said or implied that

My friend had the same problem and when I saw his plates betwen some of them there was 1 cm gap. I decidet that it can be your problem. In this case the round up is decesion. Your problem is very interesting. good luck.

If your friend has used plates, he may have more problems coming.
