Has to be the 70's/80's classics the spider plant and money tree.
Oh yeah and don't forget a yukka tree o.r however its spelt.
I keep lots of houseplants but then go through periods of neglect & lose loads of them.
dracaena deremensis* & sansevieria (snake plant) are the toughest imo. they tolerate low light, recover from neglect and dont turn into spider-mite colonies.
*the 'janet craig' (plain green) variety bought in the uk have the lowest light requirements, but the variegated ones are tough too, and look amazing. I use the green ones for dark corners. The main thing is not to let them dry out too much & water till run-off, so that salts and stuff in the water doesnt build up and burn the leaves. BUT even if you mess up & burn some leaf tips, new ones will soon take over & it can look nice again.
yukka & jade plants would be a good bet as well, but i think they will need a brighter spot ie. fairly close to the window.

I always found that Dracaena are pretty much bomb proof. Although they have a fussy reputation, I've found that Ficus Benjamina are tough as old boots so long as they approve of where you put them. If they don't, they drop all their leaves at once in protest.
Peace Liliy, great plant, doesn't need direct sunlight and even droops/wilts over to remind you it needs watering :)
Some female Rosales are great houseplants. You can easily turn your old broom closet in to a good place for them, add a few lights and hydroponics setup and your good.
Cannabis! Not only is it straight forward to grow indoors, it can act as an investment fund for later in life :)
The Chinese evergreen is good for filtering the air in room. Always smells fresh in a room with many plants.

If your not up for that - and I have no idea why you wouldn't be, get some chilli plants and get some homemade chilli sauce going :)
