    Fitting Gas cooker

We will be moving back to the UK some time in the next year.

We will be bringing our gas double oven cooker with us. (we originally imported it from the UK)

Is it still a requirement by law that cookers have to be installed by a Corgi registered gas fitter or can you put it in yourself?

I installed it myself in this house and I have installed others so I know what I am doing as far as doing it properly goes.

I think that its probably best to have a corgi registered installer but a workmate of mine fitted his own boiler and got a corgi guy to check it for him.

    So he says anyway.

I wouldn't risk working with gas even if I am competent with solder fittings.

There are no solder fittings when putting in a cooker.

all you do is wrap ptfe tape around the threads of the gas feed and screw on the gas pipe coming from the cooker.

I know how to do it right the guy that taught me was corgi registered what I need to know is if it is a legal requirement

    Re: Fitting Gas cooker

Unless your cooker is fitted with a self sealing bayonet connection on the end of flexible piping, you are legally required to have the work certified by a gas safe installer. You can do the work yourself, but it must be tested and commissioned by a certified person.

    Right thanks for that.

I least I know I can fit it myself and just have them give it the once over. That should save a bit of money

    ^^this

did mine, soldered all the pipes to the oven and the guy used a 1/4 turn bayonet fitting so i could remove it to clean behind.

    Re: Fitting Gas cooker

The law states a competent person when working with gas so that would suggest a Gassafe registered person, I would think the check over price and install price is about the same . Don't forget flexi pipes need a chain to secure the appliance too.

Yes. That is the answer. It is illegal if your cooker is not tested by a certified person. And also it is not safe even if you had installed 1000 cookers before.
