Evening all,
I am in dilemma in deciding either to get a 2in1 washer dryer or two seperate units.
Our requirements are -
1. Energy Efficent
2. minimum of 1400rpm
3. Quiet-ish
4. Good Build for lasting long
5.Short wash option / Good Selection of programs
6. Long Gurantee
What would you all recommend and why?
The advantage of two separate units is that,if one goes wrong you still have the other one working. OTH,it also takes up more space too.
Ive personally got a Samsung 2 in 1 unit, ticks the majority of your boxes the biggest issue I've found with it is the dryer part of it is crap and that's being polite takes nearly 2-3 hours just to dry some bedding.
Apart from space and having another unit working when one stops working, is there any lack of functionality?
I've seen 2 brands I've taken a liking to - 1. Samsung 2. LG
Both look nice, have plenty of options and have new technology to make it more appealing but don't know which is the better of the 2 and if there's any point of a washer dryer or when the dryer will rarely get used...
However I was thinking spending around 700 on the washing machine and maybe 200-300 on the dryer but again just don't know which way to turn...
Combination devices are still one of the single most unreliable white goods on the market. If space is a concern though, you don't have much choice.
There are three brands worth buying in the combi market. Bosch and AEG are roughly equivalent, and don't spend less than about £500. If you want something really decent, a brand which won't explode even a little bit, you want Miele - but at that point you're closer to the £1000 mark.
I cannot imagine a combination device to be energy efficient.
Will be rated at 3kW most probably and for a wash and dry would take about 3 hours on a 6kg load.
I have a separate washer and dryer and running both once a day cos a fortune.
I would however recommend separate units as less to go wrong and easier to fix.
I will never again buy a combi. I'll either get two separates, or if space or budget preclude that, I'll buy a washer and do without the dryer until I can afford it, or fit it in.
It is also a category of equipment where, in my opinion, it really is worth going for decent makes. Miele if you can afford it, AEG, LG, Siemens, etc, if you can't.
I wouldn't recommend 2in1, I'd suggest you get a good washing machine and pair it with a spin dryer. Don't worry about spin speed, 1400rpm doesn't mean better wash or better machine. Reducing speed means less noise as well as machine longevity.
Not really a dilemna, separates are always better than combination washing machines.
Faster RPMs in washing machines means drier clothes and results in less energy cost for dries. But is far better to dry your clothes naturally as drying clothes in machines can give premature wear.
With a 1200rpm I assure you they come out pretty rinsed without overly creasing them. If you added a spin dryer you could wash them at a lower rpm - say 800 or even 600 - it only even reaches top speed for a minute near end of the wash. The money saved for those extra 200rpm could be used to get a spin dryer where space is limited.Quote:

Personally, not with a barge pole. It's a combo. Been there before, and not doing it again. Nothing against LG, but it's a combination machine. Not doing it again.Quote:

If you've got room for the separates, get separates. It'll be cheaper, they'll perform better, and it'll probably be more energy efficient as they should take less time overall (for £500 you should, for instance, be able to get separates that can take a 9kg load from dirty to clean and dry in < 5 hours: you won't find a combi that can do that). Plus you can cycle wash loads through quicker if you've got two machines (one can be drying while the next one's washing).
I wouldn't touch the car or television that we had when I was a teen either, but times move on and energy efficiency and reliability increase.
But yeah if you have the space then separates are best.
Maybe I've been the exception to the rule. Whilst still living at home we've always had combi's (space issues!) and they've never had any problems, ok the last one a Bosch if my memory serves correctly died after about 7 years. Certainly wasn't that bad going given the state of the water.
Plus the place I used to rent had a combi and don't recall it being problematic.
I'm looking to get something for my new place when funds are a little better and I only have 1 space available so it looks like a combi will be the way to go.
What I've said before is distinctively different to what you said above. Higher RPMs in washing machines results in less water in clothes which means less drying cost. I didn't saying anything about rinsing being any different between the spin speeds.Quote:
