Need advice on surveillance cameras
Hi,
We are living in a two story house and have been planning to buy a Home Security System to cover a good range of area. But we have no idea about these kinds of systems. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
I and my hubby have smart phones and we think if we can have the camera views through it, then that would be convenient when we are away. We only require 4 cameras and should not be much expensive. Also I would like to know whether wired or wireless systems would be less costly
Re: Need advice on surveillance cameras
Welcome to HEXUS!
What do you hope/intend to achieve with this system?
If it is deterrence, then dummy cameras would be a start, however, if it for gathering evidence to identify an intruder, you are looking at a fairly high definition camera, with infra red illumination and some form of recorder. If the recordings are to be used evidentialy, then you need quite sophisticated recordings with embedded time stamps.
If you go on holiday, are you going to be monitoring your house 24x7?. And if you do see an intruder, and you are tens, hundreds or thousands of miles away, what are you going to do about it?
On the other hand, if you are planning to look occasionally for peace of mind, then a system such as you describe will do that, but again, what would you do if you saw something?
Imho, a video surveillance system should support a conventional intruder detection system, so you need to get that sorted first, then decide on a video system.
