Builders Working late into the night.
Good evening peeps.
The house below me (I live in an upper massionette ) has recently been bought and the builders have been in for weeks now.
the last few nights they have been working late to around 8pm. Tonight however they we still banging and drilling away up to 9.45pm. I understand that they have a job to do but my 2 kids have been kept awake. Wife says that they have been there about 12 hours.
Ended up going down and asking them how long they would be. They stopped working around 20 mins later.
is there time that they should stop making noise. Isn't there a law that at 9pm they should stop any noise?
Re: Builders Working late into the night.
yep 8 in the morning till 10pm i think ..
Re: Builders Working late into the night.
I thought it was till 23:00 for some reason, but most council sites state that construction (including DIY) should be kept between "8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. There should be no working on Sundays or bank holidays"

Really? That's the only time anything gets done round my way...
Re: Builders Working late into the night.
No DIY on a Sunday? That's not very British!
But yeah, appreciate it's an issue. A polite note asking them to let you know what times they are going to be working until and now long for. Maybe they just didn't realise they were disturbing people and will be more considerate in future.
Re: Builders Working late into the night.
Got a text from the Wife this morning....
They started again at 8am. She wasnt happy.
I called the homeowner/landlord leaving a firm but nice message saying about last nights previous late night and the early start today and he left me a message saying pretty much ' deal with it and you need to cut us some slack' He did say thats the last day that they will be there as they are finished now.
Fine.
My wife went and spoke, well more shouted at him before i could call her and let rip at him him saying we have put up with the noise for weeks now and never said a word. she said that if you told us that you might be a working a bit late on the last few nights, we would have known what to expect. She was annoyed because of last night being so late and today being so early, with both kids having the cold and coughs. they are both knackered and grumpy.
if the kids hadnt been ill, it would have been a different story.
I don't mind the noise, but a hammer and drilling is better than an unhappy wife in my ear.
Hopefully its resolved now, or my windows have been smashed :)
