Propane or Butane for camping stove.
Peeps
We are off camping in a few weeks with the kids and i have a dilemma.
What kind of gas to get for my dual camping stove?
We can either get propane or butane and unsure which one to get. I have small single stove that uses those pressurized cans but no good for 4 mouths to feed, so we need something bigger.
Does it really matter what i use??????
Cheers
Re: Propane or Butane for camping stove.
Not much odds, propane has a lower melting point than butane so works at lower temps (butane cylinders start to lose flow due to low pressure at around 10C). Make sure you get a regulator to match the type of gas (propane is red, butane is blue).

if it's a coleman use petrol works way better ...

Boiling point :). But really only an issue in winter. Butane boils at around zero centigrade, so a butane stove won't work below that.
If you are looking at a stove that uses the small refillable cylinders, (which you exchange, you don't refill them yourself) you will probably find butane is more widely available at camp sites.

I ended up getting a blue tank and regulator ( butane ) off gumtree for £15 so went for that.
Looks like it should be ideal for what I need.
Cheers guys.
Re: Propane or Butane for camping stove.
As long as you have the right regulator you will be fine. The only time you need to worry about it is if your are camping when it is very cold.

Camping is no good when its cold
done it once and it snowed it was that cold.
Not a good night.
