    Chickens

So who has chickens at home?

I've just been sitting here watching one of our two Peeking Bantams running about the garden. They are really funny to have around.

We started with five of them this time last year. It was supposed to be four hens and a cockerel, but we suspected we had two boys so one went back to the breeder. Then one of the hens died, not sure why, there may have been a cat in the garden at the time as well as my four year old. I think fright had a lot to do with it.

Last week we finally re-homed the boy. He was getting too loud and aggressive, to both the hens and to anyone else in the garden. We couldn't have him loose in the garden with the kids there in case he went for them. He would flap and bounce off my legs when letting him out in the mornings.

Anyway, now we have just the two, we are probably going to gget a few more hens. They are great in the garden and I've built a nice big coop for them too.

I'll post up photos later, light is fading and they are off to their bed now.

What kinds do any of the rest of you have?

    Re: Chickens

still getting eggs from them, 3 years later.

the black spotty one seems to send most days just lying around feeling sorry for itself, we thinks its on its way out.

those bushes in the video, all of them got eaten, as has half the lawn, we just have a 30ftx40ft muddy, soily, mossy patch now

feed them on instant noodles, lettuce, Lancashire cheese, although any crumbly cheese will do, lost count of how many weve tried. spaghetti works aswell. also some chicken grit and mash. dads just got back from the shop with a load of salad kits, cherry tomatoes and a papaya. should last another week on that.

given up trying to keep them in a run, had to keep moving it around so they didn't eat all the lawn in one patch, so let them out and then they proceeded to eat all the lawn anyway.

jus have to remember to keep the back door closed, found the white one climbing up the stairs adventuring the other week

*no idea what type they are, just call them the white one, spotty one and the black one. they were called breakfast, lunch, dinner and Rambo. Rambo died after a year though
