    HELP: What Drill Adapter...

I am hoping to use this floorboard cutter this evening to route some cables through my new house (nothing like breaking into a new toy...) however I am unsure as to how I fit it on my Makitia 18v combi drill or a borrowed SDS drill. Can anyone advise? I have set aside this evening to try and 'break the back of it' but would hate to find I have two drills, and the cutting tool but no way of joining the two together...

    Many thanks guys

    Re: HELP: What Drill Adapter...

Those hole cutters usually come with a centre mandrel that the cutter screws/attaches onto. The Mandrels can be either straight shank or SDS, depending on your drill.

According to the first reviewer, you need to by the arbor (mandrel) separately - buy the appropriate one for your drill (hex for a 3 jaw chuck, SDS+ for an SDS drill).

You will need the covers too, to make good afterwards.

As Spreadie said, you need the part to attach the hole saw to the drill, that is an Arbor.

    One of these:

    Re: HELP: What Drill Adapter...

    Many thanks guys!

I wonder if i could get away with buying the SDS bit, and then if my makita is powerful enough using the SDS bit in the three jaw chuck?

Saves me either buying the one for my makita and then finding out it isn't powerful enough (though at 18V it is fairly beefy...) or buying the SDS bit for a borrowed tool and never using it again!

You should be able to grip the SDS bit, after all regular drill bits are perfectly round.

If you can go straight to SDS, I'd go that way. The last time I used a large hole saw (80mm is the largest I've used too) it was horribly slow going with even a decent battery system. A mains drill had the power and torque to blast through in seconds.

    Re: HELP: What Drill Adapter...

Not sure - the maximum chuck size on most drills is about 1/2 inch diameter. SDS may be larger and the end isn't round. If you have a local Screwfix, take the drill in with you to check.

SDS+ is 10mm in diameter, but it is shaped, so may not fit.

They are said to be NOT interchangeable
