    Wallpapering on plasterboard

If I want to stick on wallpaper on plasterboard what would I do first. It was painted matt white last summer but needs a bit of colour.

Ideally if I ever have to remove the wallpaper few years down the line I don't want to mess it up.

Any recommendation on good quality product for the job (no Wickes please).

seal it with watered down pva glue the day before you paper, will be fine should you need to remove it.

    Re: Wallpapering on plasterboard

Plasteroard is paper lined, so it is a matter of sealing the paper. The matt paint will have sealed it, but the wallpaper glue may adhere too much to the matt paint when you come to remove it. That said, it you are using vinyl paper, removing that can leave the paper backing (to the wallpaper) intact which can then be used as lining paper.

As goNz0 says, using a coat of PVA (iirc, about 6:1 water to PVA) and putting that on will seal the matt surface, but make sure it is dry before you paper!

You can use the same technique for sealing concrete surfaces too.

    Re: Wallpapering on plasterboard

    Thanks Peter.

So if you apply a good quality sealant would you save on primer? I.e. apply sealant, let it dry, maybe apply 2nd time and let it dry, then stick on wallpaper.

Main thing I want to do is minimize chances of damage underlying wall when it comes to stripping off later.

    Re: Wallpapering on plasterboard

You can certainly add a second coat of PVA to seal (perhaps a bit stronger) so you don't need to size the wall first with wallpaper adhesive.

The second coat of PVA may take longer to dry because he surface will be less absorbent.
