The Shed Appreciation Society
Shed Appreciation Society or S.A.S.
there comes a time in a mans life when he needs his own space, away from all the stresses of life, a place to relax and tinker with oily greasy things and hit things with hammers. essentially to do man things in.
I got my own shed when I was 14 or thereabouts, so long ago I cant remember, 1995 I think. I had inherited some money and my dad encouraged me to start my man-shed off. I bought a hammer, screwdrivers, 22" scroll saw, big lathe, few drills, workmate 2000, you know the usual tools any 14 year old would like :p
I built a few things like bird tables, bird box house thing, custom workbench. nice simple things.
school, life, 3 car crashes, other relatives passing away, other ones moving in, and the years slipping away brings us up to a month ago when I finally got around to tidying my shed up so I could actually get in it. it had been used as a dumping ground for pretty much everything my mum didn't want in the house. Still is in some ways, but that's where car-boots and ebay are coming in handy :)
before I go on anymore, I will point out it may not be what many would traditionally call a shed - a small wooden thing with felt roof. mine is more of a brick outbuilding my dad built at weekends and nights after work. 50foot by 8foot ish (not properly measured it, but its round about that big.
anywho. heres a photo tour of my shed, hope you enjoy it.
the whole shed
the flowers need planting around the garden, the chickens ate the others that were there. and its a 1 piece fibreglass roof.

my end
curtains are there as added security measure, was mums idea.

(continued in next post...)
Re: The Shed Appreciation Society
the main bit where I do most of my work.
I was spray painting something blue, can you tell :P
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/DSCF0001.jpg
view of the storage.
kitchen cupboard units for the walls, the doors just get in the way, bench and under-bench storage was built by me, drawers ontop are from an office.
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/DSCF0002.jpg
not much room down there is there?
dexion shelving on the right, because, just because.
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/DSCF0005.jpg
and now the other direction
anyone want a sewing machine? its a little bit in the way, not much but just enough to be a nuisance.
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/DSCF0007.jpg
aah memories
those 2 boxes on the right where what I used to use as my shed, they were a tiny bit more portable
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/DSCF0008.jpg
Re: The Shed Appreciation Society
some of my mums stuff
1930s cupboard, sun lounger parasol, shelving unit. my workmates are behind that lot.
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/DSCF0011.jpg
carty thing
some old mobility scooter parts from work, they are going to be turned into a compost bag delivery vehicle 2000 eventually
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/DSCF0009.jpg
camera shy chickens
these 3 are what have eaten everything in the garden. at least everything else is well fertilised.
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/DSCF0019.jpg
so theres a brief tour of my shed in all its sheddy goodness.
feel free to show off your shed/favourite tools/man drawers/cupboard under the stairs, this is a place to appreciate others personal man areas (ooh err)
hope you enjoyed it.

Can we post yet? ;)
I presume you follow this twitter feed?

Re: The Shed Appreciation Society
Crikey ! My first house wasn't as good as that !
Re: The Shed Appreciation Society
yes you can post, hence why I reserved the posts :p
and no I don't follow twitter things, cat-the-fifth mentioned that in another thread I may just have to go and take a look at it, what with all the recommendations.
Re: The Shed Appreciation Society
Total shed envy. One of the things I don't like about this house, no shed, not even a dingy little one. There's room though... hmm.
Re: The Shed Appreciation Society
I must admit, last week I killed off one of my sheds, here I am mid destruction..

The finished result, kinda...Lots of work still to remove the base, fill it in and make some raised beds.

Also the two were connected before so there is a massive gap in the side of the remaining one (where the panel is resting on the side of it) not sure if to just hack it together, paint it one colour and stick some trellis up to hide the edges?..
Re: The Shed Appreciation Society
We used to have a shed in our back garden. Wasn't the biggest but it was so cool! We had our sledge in there (even though we only ever used it once in Llangolen!
My decided to get rid of it and have some stupid water feature in place of it. Only good thing to come of that was watching my cat jump in to it - He's not a fan of water to say the least.
Re: The Shed Appreciation Society
I have two sheds.
Neither of which is as lovely as this:

It pains me to this day that they got cold feet and decided not to sell (after stringing us along for two months).

use the now spare side with the door and window in it to patch the hole up. you never know when you may need the rear access to get behind something large you may build.
and don't dawdle too much, your wife/significant other may decide you might aswell carry on removing the rest of the shed to make the garden look prettier. so get it finished :p
@spreadie - aww sucks :( maybe they realised they would miss \'the shed\' so decided not to sell it.

we moved into a flat in january, so i've had to downsize my garage into a 'storage unit'. its about 3m x 2m, so im working out how to hang as much as possible to save space. i've got snowboards and old rugs stored in the eaves already.
this is it 6 weeks ago when i finished the work surface. i've since added some 'splashback' as our lass called it, but its just mdf i glued to the wall. just speccing up a 12v battery, some led lighting and a solar panel charging system for it. the main usage is a bolt hole for me n the dog to work on the RC cars.
Re: The Shed Appreciation Society
Dug right into the hillside below the forest, our garage became a shed because it isn't deep enough to park a (full size) car in. And no I'm not a freemason, the gate design just sort of came out that way. Too lazy to trim the vines.

Someone mentioned a sledgehammer. If you look closely you can find a half-buried Dremel in there.

My favourite tools. I use that miter saw for cutting everything, from wood, to acrylic, to aluminium, to copper. Also a table saw buried under that sheet timber somewhere.

Empty sandbox makes a good napping ground for the cat.

Re: The Shed Appreciation Society
ooh nice sheds
bytejunkie - that sheds way too tidy and the work surface looks too thin for me. couple of good whacks with a sledgehammer and it'll go straight through. but as its mainly for RC cars, i'll forgive you.
NecronomicoN - can't see a workmate in amongst that lot :( but ill forgive you, you have a dremel. if you look at my 2nd post, top picture to the left of the tins of paint, theres mine :D
she looks like she wants to do evil mischief with that rototiller. looks like you disturbed the cat and made it grumpy.
Re: The Shed Appreciation Society
The Workmate, compressor, and various other toys are in the cellar atm. And that's my snowblower, not a rototiller. (I loath yard work lol)
