Home Bar...realistic goal or pie in the sky dream?
Hello all.
In the process of converting an old summerhouse into a bar. Was gonna just fit a few dummy pumps to the bar purely for aesthetics but have now started considering making at least one functional.
I have zero knowledge about where I would start to research this or start assembling the bits needed to do this. Does any one have any experience from doing this themselves or able to point me in the right direction.
Many thanks.

if you do, just remember to regularly clean the pipes and nozzles. Nothing gives a lousy pint like uncleaned plumbing.

i give it a year and you will be going to AA meetings.
LOL
seriously though, optics are easy to install and come by. you will need pumps and piping and somewhere cool to keep the barrels. a warm beer is

This, and make sure to flush it, the only thing worse than unclean plumbing is a pint of cleaning fluid.
Also I'd think that unless you are planning on getting through a reasonable volume it may not be worth the hassle (i.e. if you regularly have mates round it may be worth it, if it's just you probably not).
Not sure if you are thinking of ales or lagers, but you'll possibly also have to think about how to keep the barrel cool-ish.

If you were in a student house with 6 blokes I' say go for it.
On your own - IMHO it's pointless. You'll turn into an alcoholic if you try and finish each barrel on your tod.

Look in to kegerators - diy mix of fridge, keg, tap etc. Lots of sites to be found on google with all the info. You can get 8/10/20 litre mini barrels that you store within the fridge to keep it cool and fresh (and realisticaly with a few friends over can be used in a single evening). Actually works out no cheaper than cans etc (and often more expensive) but obviously tastes much nicer ..

As above, you can get mini casks (usually actually boxes - like wine boxes) of beer pretty easily these days and the quality is supposedly better than bottled beer. Can be a bit of a big commitment though so you'd want to try before you buy.

a serious drinker would spend the money on the drink, not the bar. if you are completely loaded like a rockstar then you shouldn't need to ask the question in the first place
