    Outside Light tripping earth leakage.

    ERRRRRGH.

That took ages to find out which thing it was. I'd just assumed it was a malfunctioning appliance, spent about 15 min assuming it was the fish tank.

I don't need help or advice on how to fix it, just some time to vent, mostly because I fixed the problem by replacing the lamp fixing about 6 years ago. I did a damned fine job too. But no, the housing has let water in, should I have just sealed the whole thing, along the the screw tightened opening?

Wear and bloody tear. Just when you've been working enough on important let's not have the new company go bankrupt type things for the last couple of weeks something as stupid as a light fitting alerts to you that the UPS battery can barely power your desktop for 90 seconds.

I was going to suggest check for damp - but it seems you have that covered - nice to know my instincts were right just on reading the thread title though!

As an aside, if your running your UPS that hard you may find the battery physically degrades. Swollen/popped batteries are no fun for uptime!!

If exterior light was from the halogen days and I don't think repeated heat/cool cycles mix well with British weather and brittle plastic and rubber seals. Now gone to sealed LED unit here - not as much light but worth the trade-off IMO.

Hey - least you got a UPS - bonus for 10 if you had it configured correctly to get you shut down in time....

I lost that bonus for 10 sadly, as the hibernate takes longer than the UPS can power.

However, the tool of my trade I have set to constantly backup every few keypresses so I can step backwards and forward in time, it's useful to see what I was thinking before. SSD RAIDs are after all pretty quick to commit too.

I've decided to just recycle that UPS and get a new one.
