First Utility & Ovo Energy...any good?

I've recently been comparing electricity & gas prices, & it seems I could save almost £100 a year by switching to either First Utility or Ovo Energy. I just wondered whether anyone on here has any first-hand experience of either company, & the service they provide (good or bad)?

I've just signed up with Ovo and although I've not switched over yet the prices are good and the correspondence I have received thus far has been good as well. Reading around Ovo seem to get a better press than First Utility.

Had npower phone me up today asking why I was leaving, because it took you a year to set up my account properly and you are making loads of people redundant.

Been with OVO for 2 years for both gas and electric - saved a packet,
easy to enter meter readings on the website - no issues.

I'm currently with nPower too, & also pretty unhappy with their customer service. Seems like Ovo is the way to go then

Re: First Utility & Ovo Energy...any good?

I went from First Utility to nPower (and from nPower to Flow).

I'd suggest avoiding First Utility. They were expensive, and were a nightmare when I tried leaving. Got my "final" bill twice, and they got pretty aggressive when I refused to pay it a second time.

Have read some bad reviews about First utility. They make it very difficult for you to leave them.
If you sign up with another provider, they refuse to let you go. You won't hear about this, but after a few months, when you wonder, how come my new provider isn't billing me yet, your new provider will tell you that First utility hasn't let you go.
They are also known to charge very high monthly direct debit payments

Thanks for the info, I'll be avoiding First Utility then, I think.
