    Vax?

    Hi All,
My vax has finally given up the ghost, and having 3 kids under 8 and a dog I really need something similar again. Anyone got any recommendations of a domestic carpet washer? The problem I had with the existing one was that the dirty water reservoir started to get clogged up with pet hair, and was impossible to clean out properly.

    Thanks in advance.....

Numatic (who make the Henry Hoover's) do a wet VAC version. The dry vacs are workhorses and easy to maintain and get spare parts for. I can imagine the wet vac version would be the same.

    Re: Vax?

If you have a normal dry vacuum cleaner and this is just for spills, pet vomit etc I can totally recommend the Bissel Little Green Machine.

Deejayburnout: "Charles is not able to do carpet/upholstery cleaning or floor scrubbing." Makes this a no go I'm afraid.

Danceswithunix: yeah we have a decent dry vacuum. Does the bissel have a hose artachment? Our 1 year old seems to enjoy pouring milk/juice into hard to reach places.

    Re: Vax?

Oh I see it does. Is it possible/easy to clean the dirty water reservoir? That's the problem I have with the vax we have.

The dirty water reservoir is a bottle that unplugs from the green body of the machine, at which point I usually tip the contents down the toilet and then repeatedly fill the thing with clean water and shake it out. I haven't tried dismantling it to give it a good scrub, so far a good rinse has been enough (and it does get used for the incontinence of an ageing cat). I shall have a look this evening if you want.

I leave it with some cleaning liquid & water in the soap bottle, ready to go in emergencies as the manual said you can do that.

Edit to add: If you want to completely clean an entire carpet, then this little thing isn't the tool for the job. Not having to lug the vax out from the back of the cupboard under the stairs in order to clean up a small spill is exactly what I wanted though, so I think it is great.

    Re: Vax?

For posterity's sake, I should say I ended up buying a the Vax equivalent of the above:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/450832-vax-por...-washer-vcw-02

I decided on that after reading some reviews of the Bissel which said it didn't suck massive amounts of liquid out of the carpet. The Vax has already had a thorough test after we discovered b0redom junior 3 had emptied a complete muller corner yoghurt on the floor and then ground it in with his toes. Very impressed. Much easier to clean too!

Odd, I don't think it does any worse job than our old Vax Luna. Still, sounds like you found a decent bit of kit so I hope you enjoy the reclaimed time of not having to get a big carpet cleaner out for every spill.

I find the carpet shampoo lasts for ages as well because the jet on the Bissel is very directed, I presume your Vax will be much the same.

Yeah, although I tend to be lazy and not shampoo much, just very hot water.

Too late now, I know, but we have a Bissell and I wouldn't have accused it of that. It's a big honker, though. Makes a conventional upright vacuum look compact. It is a [i]cleaner/shampooer[] though, not a wet 'n' dry vac.

As for pet hair, dunno, don't have pets.

Whereas hot water has to be put in the machine now, which is more effort than I want. Cold water with some carpet shampoo in it could have (and probably has) been in there for weeks.
