    Xmas trees!

When is everyone putting theirs up?

    What did you get?

We're away at the in-laws for Xmas so I'm looking to get a small one sometime this week. Still not sure when to put it up. Maybe a Victorian Xmas and put it up on Xmas eve!

    Re: Xmas trees!

A fake tree! Shock horror! The other half is allergic to Christmas (trees), whereas I just don't like Christmas (cake and pudding). Up and decorated, we were naughty and did it a couple of days before December but the excuse was we had family over.

Highlights are the little round red Christmas lights, look a lot nicer than a standard sets I think. Maybe have to get some more tinsel next year, a bit thin in places...

We're not. We don't do Christmas. Or any other religious or pseudo religious celebrations, for that matter. We certainly don't celebrate the Great God Consumerism, or respect the High Priests, retailers.

    Bah, humbug.

    Re: Xmas trees!

Ours went up last night as we finally had a day to spend together!

Not religious in the slightest but my girlfriend is mildly.

It's a pretty quiet affair, we're both pretty skint seeing as we're students/trainees! The tree is nice though, for a fake, we picked it up in a January sale two years ago, which I'd recommend doing if you're thinking stuff like "The lights are on there way out" because we got the tree less than half price. And it wasn't 'dodgy inflated on the day rrp' half price. Girlfriends parents have the seven foot version and we paid about a third of what they paid for the 6 foot'r.

Our's has the plastic pine cones on, which I think looks pretty nice and helps fill out any thin patches.

    Re: Xmas trees!

Ours went up at the weekend, the same 7ft pre-lit artificial tree that's done me and Mrs Scary since our first Christmas together; it's the 12th time we've decorated it now

Not yet, probably hulk the patchy fake thing from the loft again this week. If it was up to me I wouldn't bother, but it isn't

NOT YET... it's not Christmas yet.

I think about a week before it ideal for me

My doubt is... do we use the fake one again.. or get a real tree for the first time in a decade...

my boy has never smelled a Christmas tree in the morning of Christmas Day... and it IS a lovely smell

    Re: Xmas trees!

Not decorated yet as we are moving into a new place next week, then it will be a trip to get a real tree again! First real one last year and it made the place feel 'warmer' and the smell was divine. Lots of fun with cutting to size and potting, great for chldren and 'big kids'.

    Re: Xmas trees!

Got my £15 5-6" homebase Norwegian spruce (?) and put it up last night.

No stand here. I saw it of flat and counter sinker two big screws through a wood base up the trunk ( or stem for something this size). A solid 20 degree tilt. Got it second time!

The kids have tinseled the rest of our house and it looks like some kind of pins parlour.

    Re: Xmas trees!

Not enough storage in new flat - xmas gear too much of a luxury.
Have been trying to think about creating a throwaway representation e.g. a big cardboard cutout from my packing boxes, but cannot seem to get motivated.
Flat does overlook a churchyard, I could probably reach out with extending window washer pole and put a decoration on a tree branch.
    What could possibly go wrong?

Just get some candles or lights.

    Re: Xmas trees!

We've got a real one as it's mini-Smudger's 2nd Christmas. It's a 4ft potted one, so we can keep it alive and it'll drop less.

If I had my way, we'd have this:
