before you bin it, check there is no rust in the fuel tank, make sure the carb is clean and you can even strip down the carb and buy new gaskets for a few £
also try some easistart before you try and fire it up
To be fair & serious, goats make very effective lawnmowers. My uncle used to have a massive house & garden up in the Yorkshire Dales. Used to have 3 or 4 goats that kept the lawn well trimmed. Furthermore he user to rent them out to TV production companies for tv shows when they needed goats for programmes (Last of the Summer Wine, All Creatures Great & Small etc.) and made a tidy packet from that as well.
Picked up a Honda (http://www.honda.co.uk/lawn-and-gard...fications.html) before summer last year. We have a big rear garden and a larger field next to us. The mower ate the field up (though it could do with some kind of inflated wheels rather than the hard plastic type).
Picked it up online for approx. £450.
If money was no object then we would have a ride on but it would only end up with somebody crashing it :D.
