Recommend me a Fridge Freezer
Hi Guys,
Had a quick search and couldnt find anything regarding to this topic.
Could you recommend me a good Manufacturer (or specific model) for a fridge freezer based on experiences?
Size is 60wx60d - no restrictions on height, but figured 2metres is unnecessary, and Im not that tall!
Dont mind where its from but a 3/5 year warranty would be nice.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Recommend me a Fridge Freezer
all you can do is find one with a feature set you like. They're all much of a muchness, though check Which to make sure you avoid a "don't buy" model.
Get frost free, after that it's up to you.
Re: Recommend me a Fridge Freezer
Avoid Samsung going by the trouble my friends have had with theirs!
Re: Recommend me a Fridge Freezer
Budget - good point - Up to £400
Samsung - Id heard bad things, thank you for reinforcing that!
Frost free - Yes a must. Checked Which? and 3 of the 10 were samsung! Will double check the dont buy list.
Thanks guys.

A decent Hot Point with an extended warranty. i've got the ffaa52p its hmm 8 years old now. White good. Typical when the warranty finished after 5yrs it had a problem and Hotpoint wanted £129 to fix it, thats like half the price of the dam thing. its cheaper to get a new one then to repair them. But a local guy fixed mine for £35 which was really nice.
Re: Recommend me a Fridge Freezer
I've got a Samsung and it's been fine, did have a problem with the ice maker on it when it arrived, but they sent a guy round next-day with a replacement drawer and I haven't had an issue since (about 12 months old now). It has a 5/10 year guarantee, it's quiet and cold and very reasonably priced looking at the alternatives from other manufacturers.

Bosch are my go to in that budget. John Lewis are my fav. suppliers, so perhaps something like this:

(which I think is exactly the same as the one we have).

Mine is also a Bosch but triple A+ rated with meat/fish chiller & crisperbox for not much more money than the model above. Also bought from John Lewis. I dislike frost free models because it means higher running costs, less freezer capacity and less reliability.

But that's out of budget. (And besides, can't find it on John Lewis).
That one does have a crisper box. Not sure what a meat/fish chiller is.

Provided you manually defrost it frequently because frost build up will reduce efficiency and increase running costs. But of course the act of defrosting by allowing the fridge to warm up is also increases running costs as it then has to be cooled down again, so I would suggest that auto defrost increases efficiency. Reliability may be an issue, although the components (on a reputable make) will be engineered appropriately for a domestic appliance.
If you want greater reliability, without the frills of door furniture and a plethora of internal fittings, by a fridge/freezer designed for commercial use - but you will pay a premium for the higher build quality.
Some frost free models are fanned internally, which ensures an even temperature distribution, and faster cooling of objects placed in the fridge.
Re: Recommend me a Fridge Freezer
We've had a Samsung for more than a year and I haven't had any complains yet to be honest. Plus all appliance manufacturers hold tight to "planned obsolescence" so I try not to worry too much about it. just open it as less possible and from there on it's all about luck and wise choice
Re: Recommend me a Fridge Freezer
Had a Samsung frost free, needed the frost free fixed after 3 years and then failed after another 3. Just couldn't be bothered fixing another flawed product.
I now have a Bosch lowfrost model. Its nice, but the magnets aren't as good as the Samsung, so I ended up buying an extra temprature alarm.
If I would buy again: Low frost not frost free, built in temprature alarm, make sure those magnets are super powerful.
Re: Recommend me a Fridge Freezer
I hadnt realised the frost free feature adds to the running costs, and more importantly the reliability of the whole unit.
But having looked at non frost free, I can see the running costs go down by about £10, which is quite something. I dont understand the mechanics exactly, aside from there being an extra Fan that pushes in dry air.
Thanks for all the input guys, appreciate it.
keep going :)
Re: Recommend me a Fridge Freezer
We're currently on a Beko, frost-free, which we bought as a shop second and has been going strong for 4 and a half years already. The new kitchen layout in our new house has been designed partly to allow us to keep our existing fridge freezer. Most Beko models should come in under £300, let alone £400, and the performance is exceptional. In fact, I don't think I've ever had a bad Beko product, and I've bought several (iirc our current washing machine is Beko too, and that's been going a similar length of time without issue).
Ours is one of the 60 width which do stick out past the worktop slightly (they're 65cm deep), but for us it's worth it for the extra space.
I'd post some links, but Currys and Beko both apparently use isitetv.com for their product videos and the domain seems to have expired .. ooops! AO.com doesn't seem to have such an issue: here's the link for their Beko frost free range: http://ao.com/l/fridge_freezers-beko-86/1-6-20/26/

Lucky you, my friend's had beko stuff go bad on him. Everything in their new-build flat broke within a year. Faulty hob nearly caused a full-on electrical fire.
Oh, and there's been a recall on Beko fridge-freezers due to fire risk from a faulty thermostat. see here: https://refsafety.beko.co.uk/
