Washing machine purchase advice
I'm hoping I can get some pointers on some decent washing machines that are out at the moment.
Washing machine was mid wash and started giving out what sounded like a wasp stuck in the drum every time the drum went to rotate- Sure enough it was electrical buzzing with blue sparking coming from the bottom right by the feet - Its a 2nd hand machine so seems like an apt time to purchase a new one, especially with the Bank holiday "sales" - so must act quickly if there's something good. With that:
Ive done a search and a lot of the results are from a good 4/5 years ago, so hoping to get some more recent reviews and opinions on the new washing machine hotness!
[EDIT: found this http://forums.hexus.net/consumer-ele...-2-models.html D'oh! But specific models so wanted a bigger umbrella approach ]
Requirements: (not in order of priority)
budget: up to £700 (if its worth it)
Noise: quiet as possible (Its in ear and viewing shot)
Weight: Dont NEED 8kg (current one is 5kg and dont have any qualms) Bigger drum helps with better water extraction at lower RPM?
Dimensions: Max 89H 57 D 61W
Efficiency: Best it can be
Looks: meh
Brand: Not fussed but understand Miele are your ferraris of the washing world and Bosch are decent, too.
I found a review that "best buy" the Miele WDA111 but its been discontinued - this came in at a good price and reviewed very well.
Thank you in advance
Re: Washing machine purchase advice
Bosch is probably the next best thing to Miele. With that budget you could easily get a Bosch Serie 8, which is one of their top washing machines currently. Add in options for installation and recycling the old machine and you'll still be within budget, just.
I've got one of those earlier this year and it's the best washing machine that I've ever owned. You really do need the installation option as it's extremely heavy.
The good points for me are how quiet it is. It also washes the clothes really well with a multitude of options that actually work.
You can configure settings like the beeps at the end of the wash. You can do a night wash. Delay a wash for up to day. The stain removal programmes are very good. You can also do an extra rinse (for sensitive skin). It has sportswear programmes which are great for my gym and cycling kit, and a 15-minute wash that I use for new clothes before wearing them.
Bad points: I don't like the chrome bezel on the door and water sloshes around a bit during the wash itself so you can hear it a bit, although the spin is very quiet at any speed. After the wash, when you open the door, there's some water pooling on the rubber gasket which also collects a bit of water when you open the washing powder dispenser. This is easily wiped away or you can just press down on the gasket to drain the water away.
At the fast spins, 1400 and 1600, the clothes are quite dry.
Overall the machine looks good too. It's also very efficient. If the Bosch Serie 8 is too much for your needs in terms of wash load and features, then the Serie 6 is also excellent, and is virtually half the price of the Serie 8. My parents have a Serie 6 and are delighted with it.
Here's a link where you can check dimensions and spec of the Bosch Serie 8:

Re: Washing machine purchase advice
We picked up a Samsung 3 years ago, very happy with it especially how quiet it is. Think they still have 5 years parts and labour warranty included, the motor has a 10 year warranty. It err washes and dries well.

I don't think so, or at least not as much as higher rpm spin speeds. I imagine it is harder to design though as a bigger drum will be harder to balance with the clothes spread out more, but for family use the bigger the load the better so we were happy to pay more for that. I think ours is 8kg load and is in almost constant use.
Another happy Bosch user here.
Re: Washing machine purchase advice
Certain Miele machines are not the quality they once were so be careful. Those not of such high quality tend to have the shorter warranties. Bosch are definitely good and were I buying again I'd go with them, as it is I ended up with an AEG as the deal and warranty (5 years) was too good to ignore.
Re: Washing machine purchase advice
Thanks guys I appreciate your input - Taz I heeded your advice and went with a Bosch Series 8 - there was a tasty £400 series 6 oh JL but had accounts of it being quite noisy in full spin. I soon found out that this was a 2014 model, so based on your note about it actually being quiet and the fact that the Bosch series 8 is more recent model (2017 from what I could tell) its likely to have had some improvements. So with that, I went with the Bosch WAW32450GB_WH and got the disposal for free from AO.

Buy a Which? subscription for a month, they're big on that sort of thing.
