    Livin' on the edge

    House move.... large task.

I like to leave a FEW things to chance. I'm a natural organiser, planner and prepper...

but I have to force randomness into my life .. just cos it's important to remember I cant control everything

So.... new house.... not a cheap move.....

I have NO IDEA if the loft is boarded or even if it has a ladder.

Refused to look when we decided to buy it....tomorrow I will find out.

Win... fully boarded and ready with a ladder
Lose...utterly no work done and needing days of graft.

    Livin'.....on the edge

Lived in our place since, what, 2010... 2011... Only once even lifted the hatches (yes, plural) to look into the loft, and then only because we had mice.
Long as you have insulation (we didn't), I wouldn't worry.

    of COURSE I worry.

A loft is a thing of organised beauty.

Or... it has been in my last two houses. And will be again soon !

    Re: Livin' on the edge

You think you are living on the edge - the loft access in our place is right near the landing on the top of the staircase,so basically if you put the ladder up,you basically have the stairs right near the bottom!!

Then worry about this - Pest control bloke didn't find any mice up there, but he did note a lot of cluster-fly nests. The reason we weren't swarmed by them all (or indeed knew there was a single one of 'em) is because we also had a ton of spiders, who were dining up there like it was a medieval banquet every night!!

That's what the garage is for.... Lofts are for Christmas decorations and last year's junk presents.

    Re: Livin' on the edge

    Loft update.

2 Thermostatic showers fitted by chimps with no idea for commonsense. In fact, make push fit pipes and plastic thermostatic shower units LIKE to have the loft ladder resting on them? Maybe it's in the install instructions

1 light bulb of approx 1 candle power. Upgraded to LED on the spot to actualyl see.
2/3 boarded and one rather long overhang of board which was cut straight off for fear of high diving board syndrome when I forget and step on it.

Have three more light fittings and will sort those in the next week so I can SEE what's what.

Garage too. Both should be sorted and calm. Organised and effective.

However I agree with the spiders web thing. I never remove them, I like them catching flies.

    Likewise. Well, normally.

I did make an exception a couple of weeks back. One enterprising arachnid decided to make the biggest web I've ever seen .... RIGHT outside my front door. Which opens inwards.

Fortunately, my brakes work well and I hauled up just in time to go snout to snout with a spider the size of a dinner plate. Well, maybe he just looked that big, from a distance of about a whole inch. I swear he went as cross-eyed looking at me as I did looking at him, and I'm not sure who got the bigger surprise.

I'm just glad I pulled up quick, or I'd be wearing him like a blooming great big hairy nose ornament. The Spirit of Ecstasy might look good on a Rolls, but I'm not convinced a pee'd off mahooosive spider would be a good look for me.

And the web? It must have been easily three feet in diameter, if not more.

So yes, I encouraged him to relocate, and removed the web .... so I could get out of the house.

    Re: Livin' on the edge

    loft update.

Lots of the boards have been badly fitted... with too many boards starting in the same position, so ending at the same place, with no overlap for the tongue/groove at those joints. Cant rip it all out right now, not enough time or cash, so have screwed a few boards to the joints to protect the weak area

Was round the bakc of the tank in the dark when I had the relatively horrible "high dive board" feeling... the board I was stood on didn't terminate at a joist.. chimp installer has decided to leave it just missing the next joist for the hint of "living on the edge" especially for me

Sawed that off immediately. Dunno why people leave that stuff like that. Asking for a foot through the ceiling at best, and at worst a person though it!
