what preservative for a shed
Getting a shed next week (8x8ft). it comes pressure treated but otherwise uncoated. My wife is keen to coat it with a preservative top coat. Anyone got any suggestions? Presumably some kind of spray application is a better idea than conventional paint brush?
Re: what preservative for a shed
Osmo. They do a huge range of oils and the protection is excellent.
There's also Treatex, who do a fantastic amount of colours for outdoor use.

thanks will check those out. not too worried about dying it a colour - just after something natural looking.
Re: what preservative for a shed
When I built my shed I sprayed the panels with cuprinol before assembling them. I think the spraying helped get in all the nooks and crannies, it was a bit wasteful as not all the preservative went onto the panels but it would have taken days to brush that lot properly so worth the time saving.

May I suggest that you should leave it until next summer before treating pressure treated wood?
Pressure treated works like this : the wood goes into a large cylinder, which is sealed closed. The air is sucked out. Then it's pumped full of the treatement liquid. Then it's loaded with pressure to increase the depth it soaks into the timber.
Then the pressure is let off, the fluid is drained out and then all the wood is taken out of the cylinder.

then it dries before being used
So.. when you get it, it might not be totally dry yet.
If you leave it up for 6months it will dry out better and THEN maybe you can paint it with an extra treatment, because by then it might be able to absorb more liquid.

This.
@Zak33
Tanalising/pressure treating isn't what it once was apparently. I used to work in the saw mill for a fencing company in my youth and we would offer 15-20 year warranties on the fences we built from tanalised timber - now you're lucky to see 10 years. It's always been much more expensive than dip treated timber but, while costs have risen significantly, the quality of pressure treatment in general has taken a severe nose dive.
TLDR, it ain't what it once was.

now THAT is a good answer.
I guessed there were lots of short cuts now as there is in every industry. Good info bud
